Hulu to Develop Shows Based on George R.R. Martin Book Series ‘Wild Cards’

Hulu to Develop Shows Based on George R.R. Martin Book Series ‘Wild Cards’
Hulu is developing multiple shows based on the “Wild Cards” book series, which is edited by “Game of Thrones” scribe George R.R. Martin.

Variety has learned from sources that the streamer is set to open a writers room for two shows set in the “Wild Cards” universe. Universal Cable Productions will produce along with Hulu, with Andrew Miller set to write and executive produce both projects. Miller, who is currently under an overall deal at UCP, recently helmed the “Tremors” pilot at Syfy that saw the return of the original film’s star Kevin Bacon.

Set in the present, the “Wild Cards” books explore the aftermath of an alien virus, released over Manhattan in 1946 that killed 90% of those it infected. In the survivors, DNA was altered, creating grotesque physical deformities, except for a tiny percentage who develop super human powers instead.

‘Good Cop’ Canceled by Netflix After One Season
Netflix has pulled the plug on “The Good Cop” after just one season, Variety has confirmed.

“‘The Good Cop’ will not return for a second season,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re grateful to creator Andy Breckman and his fellow producers, writers, the incredible crew and especially stars Tony Danza and Josh Groban for bringing this classic odd couple father-son story to Netflix.”

Danza starred as Big Tony, a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, TJ (Groban), a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. The show also starred Monica Barbaro, Isiah Whitlock, Jr and Bill Kottkamp.

Breckman, the creator of “Monk,” served as showrunner and executive producer. Randy Zisk and Howard Klein also executive produced with Danza producing. The series is inspired by a

"Game Of Thrones:" HBO Confirms April Premiere For Season 8

  • Deadline
It’s official. The anticipated eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" will launch in April. HBO released a promotional video Tuesday morning with no specific date, but official word that the series will return for its final go-round in April 2019. The retrospective video features recycled footage with the most iconic scenes from the series so far.

An April premiere is not a big surprise, since Season 1-Season 6 launched in April or late March; Season 7 premiered in July 2017. But until today, the only official time frame for the debut came from HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who said the series would return in the first half of 2019. Star Maisie Williams was more specific, saying in an interview with the UK’s Metro in January that the series was eyeing an April 2019 premiere.

HBO previously revealed that the final episode was shot over 55 nights in three locations.

Now, internet viewing on Comcast’s Xfinity Stream app and website will be integrated into Nielsen’s official linear TV ratings, under an expanded pact between the U.S.’s largest cable operator and Nielsen.

Nielsen is targeting early 2019 to bring measurement of Xfinity Stream computer and mobile viewing of TV programming into its official linear currency. Currently, television viewership across Xfinity TV set-top boxes including the operator’s X1 platform is

“The Late, Late Show With James Corden” is set to air in China. CBS Studios International has struck a deal with Chinese streaming giant iQIYI that covers current shows and makes past episodes available on demand.

Chinese regulators’ attitude towards foreign content has ebbed and flowed, though growing political control of the media appears to be the current direction. Another U.S. comedy show, “Saturday Night Live,” began airing on streaming platform Sohu.com in 2014. But this year the Chinese-made version of “SNL” was removed from the Alibaba-owned streaming platform Youku after just a few weeks of broadcast.
