"The Punisher" & "Jessica Jones" Canceled By Netflix

  • Deadline
Exactly a month after the launch of its second season on Netflix, Marvel’s The Punisher has had to bite the bullet as has Jessica Jones.

As the only two series from the TV arm of the comic giant still left on the streamer, there will be no Season 3 of the Jon Bernthal led vigilante series, I’ve learned. The completed third season of the Krysten Ritter starring Jessica Jones will still appear on the streamer but will be put on ice for good after that.

This marks the end of the multi-series, big bucks and big ambitions relationship between Marvel and Netflix that started in 2013 with the announcement of four series and a The Defenders limited series.

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Netflix confirmed today to Deadline. “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal,

Friday Ratings: Fox’s ‘Proven Innocent’ Starts Soft, But ‘Last Man Standing’ Tops Demos
Another Friday, another demo win for Fox’s Last Man Standing, as back-to-back episodes dominated the demo ratings shares, scoring a 1.1/6 and 6.12 million viewers at 8 PM, then staying strong with a 1.0/5 and 5.63 million at 8:30 PM.

But the twin knockouts didn’t particularly help Fox’s new legal drama Proven Innocent, which debuted to an 0.5/3 and 3.09 million at 9 PM, going up against tough competition elsewhere.

On CBS, the debut of Levy Tran as a new character on MacGyver saw it score an 0.7/4, but a huge 6.42 million in viewers. That spurred follower Hawaii Five-O to 0.8/4 and 7.27 million viewers, with 10 PM’s Blue Bloods scoring the night’s top total viewers with 8.87 million viewers and demos of 0.8/4.

CBS also won the overall network race, scoring an 0.8/4 and 7.52 million.

At ABC, the 8 PM Fresh Off The Boat had a 0.7/4 and 3.14 million viewers as the lead-in to Speechless, which had an 0.5/3 and 2.35 million viewers.

‘The Punisher’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ Both Canceled, Ending the Marvel/Netflix Universe for Good
And then there were none. “The Punisher” and “Jessica Jones” have both been canceled, meaning the entire Marvel/Netflix universe — including “Iron Fist,” “Luke Cage,” “Daredevil,” and “Defenders” — is no more. “The Punisher” just premiered its second season a month ago, whereas the upcoming third (and now final) season of “Jessica Jones” will still air as intended. Deadline first broke the news.

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Netflix told Deadline in a statement. “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come.

Madam Secretary's Keith Carradine Talks Dalton's Nicaragua Nightmare
Madam Secretary‘s President Dalton is known for being a man of action, a leader who swiftly gathers his cabinet’s counsel then moves forward with decisive action. So his hesitant approach to an international incident — which played out in Sunday’s episode — was something portrayer Keith Carradine hadn’t often encountered in five seasons of portraying the fictional Potus. And when he had, the matter was literally life or death.

Carradine recalls Dalton’s brain tumor in Season 4, which impaired the commander-in-chief’s judgment and led his advisers to consider using the 25th Amendment to replace him. Though everyone

10 Things You Didn’t Know about Lil Kim

One thing that is very obvious about Lil’ Kim is that she has a very positive image about herself and doesn’t allow anyone to talk her down from that image. That’s great and all but throughout her career she seems to have undergone a transformation that has made it hard to identify her at times since from what people remember of a beautiful black woman with a great smile and the kind of beauty that seemed so natural we now have a woman that seems as though she might put Barbie to shame in terms of how she looks and

Why “The Simpsons” Is Going To Outlive All of Us

To be perfectly honest it’s not such a strong boast to say that The Simpsons might outlive us all, and that’s simply because when you think the show is about over it decides to go and get renewed and we’re back in the saddle again for another go. But the show hasn’t been without its issues throughout its long and storied past, since if you’ll remember it wasn’t the most loved show when it came on the Tracey Ullman Show to begin with. The animation back in that day wasn’t even close to what it is now, but the idea
