Robyn McCall will continue righting wrongs for another season.
CBS has ordered a fifth season of The Equalizer, its drama series starring Queen Latifah (who also executive produces) as McCall, a former CIA operative turned freelance problem solver for people who have nowhere else to turn. The show is a reimagining of the 1985-89 series of the same name and not connected to the Denzel Washington-led film franchise that’s also inspired by the original series.
With the renewal, The Equalizer will pass the original series in the number of seasons it has aired (though not yet in episode count — the 1980s series ran for 88 episodes, and the current show will end this season with 56).
With the pickup of The Equalizer, CBS has only one scripted series — NCIS: Hawai’i — awaiting word on its future. The network plans to announce its 2023-24 schedule on May 2.

When Ncuti Gatwa makes his first appearance as the 15th Doctor in the science-fiction series “Doctor Who,” he isn’t wearing any pants.
In a 60th-anniversary special released in December, the previous Doctor — played by series icon David Tennant — subverts the show’s long-standing practice of regeneration: Instead of simply transforming into the next Doctor, he literally splits in half, bringing Gatwa’s Doctor into the world alongside him. In the process, the two divide the clothes of Tennant’s Doctor between them, leaving Gatwa in nothing but a dress shirt and a pair of tighty-whities.
“Oh, my God, that first costume fitting!

Just like a demon baby, American Horror Story: Delicate went out kicking and screaming. The gobsmacking finale, which aired on FX Wednesday night, brings another chapter of Ryan Murphy’s twisted anthology series to a close. And what better way to end this season than with a showdown between Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian?
While the 12th season of American Horror Story has been more funny than scary overall, the finale strikes a satisfying balance between dark humor and horror as Siobhan (Kardashian) and her Satanic cult’s ultimate endgame is revealed at last.

Never underestimate the power of Conan O’Brien’s fanbase. The former late-night host has made it his mission to help a Norwegian fan have a hit song in Norway—and his efforts appear to be paying off.
It was just last week that Norwegian rap duo E.D.A. released “Velkommen Til Klubben” (aka “Welcome to the Party”), featuring a verse by O’Brien.
E.D.A—consisting of Dilettant (Jarle Hjellvik Wallevik) and Ola B (Chris Wallevik)—were featured on the first episode of the new Max series Conan O’Brien Must Go, which sees O’Brien make a surprise visit to Wallevik’s home in Norway.
In the episode, Conan goes to the studio with E.D.A. and performs an improvised bridge to the song.
But Conan’s contributions to the track didn’t end after he laid down the vocals. The host used his much-ballyhooed return to The Tonight Show...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 9.] Idol this, idol that. Jeff Probst says that promising to play an idol is a big nothing burger in Survivor. His comments come after Hunter was eliminated in Survivor Season 46 Episode 9 with an idol in his pocket, despite having sworn to other players that he was going to play it for himself in tribal council that night. Promises like this, Probst says, are complete “nonsense.” Probst revealed his feelings about idol promises in the On Fire podcast released after Episode 9 aired on CBS on April 24. He told his co-hosts, Survivor fan Jay Wolff and Season 45 winner Dee Valladares, that he knows as much about what players are going to do with their idols as fans: “Nothing.” As the host and showrunner, however, he knows “who has an idol for sure.” In his 20+ years with the show, one thing is certain: “It’s extremely rare when a player...

While it’s case closed for theDead Boy Detectives’ supernatural adventures in Season 1, there’s still plenty of mysteries to unravel — and we have some questions.
Over the course of eight episodes, the ghost teens behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency — early 1900s young gentleman Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and 1980s “rude boy” Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) — have assisted spirits stuck in the living world with their biggest challenges. They’ve seen it all: paranormal parasites, déjà vu in a haunted house, and even a butcher shop date gone awry.
With the help of their totally alive friend, the clairvoyant Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson), and her bubbly bud Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), the boys also faced down evil witch Esther Finch (Jenn Lyon). But she’s not the only evil out there.

Neil Gaiman doesn’t create singular worlds. Instead, he produces an entire universe held together by the gravitational force of his imagination.
Dead Boy Detectives, the new series based on Gaiman’s teenage ghost duo Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), exists within the same narrative reality as The Sandman. The undead detectives solve mysteries and fight demons and witches, while trying to evade the attention of Death (Kirby) herself. The series, developed for television by Steve Yockey — who serves as co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz — lives on its own, but the influence of The Sandman radiates throughout.
“I grew up reading Sandman and Books of Magic and Children's Crusade and Dead Boy Detectives and all the sort of Vertigo imprint stuff for DC Comics,” Yockey tells Tudum. “I found Dead Boys when I was going through a particularly difficult loss in my life and just found it...

First things first: The attention-seeking creatures that inhabit Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) in Dead Boy Detectives have names, thank you very much — Litty (Caitlin Reilly) and Kingham (Max Jenkins). So if you even think about calling them Sprite 1 and Sprite 2, they’ll find it really offensive and roast you into oblivion. Actually, they’ll do that anyway.
We meet the 2-inch-tall, foul-mouthed Sprites in Episode 2, “The Case of the Dandelion Shrine,” when the Dead Boy Detectives help remove the paranormal parasites from Niko’s body and trap them in an enchanted jar. From their fishbowl prison, the Sprites lovingly taunt Niko and her friends for the rest of the season. (Particularly memorable digs include Kingham comparing Niko’s face to “roadkill.”) Think of them as the series’ savage Greek chorus, commenting on the goings-on of the characters and cases.

In Season of Mists, the fourth volume of The Sandmancomics series, Neil Gaiman penned a ghost story set in a British boarding school to demonstrate the problems being caused by Lucifer’s plan to get back at Dream. Gaiman liked the characters enough that he brought them back for a Vertigo Comics crossover event, and they wound up receiving their own spin-off comic from Toby Litt and Mark Buckingham.
Now, the Dead Boy Detectives are receiving their own show from Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz. Set in the same universe as The Sandman, this series follows all the zany thrills and heartwarming moments of Charles (Jayden Revri) and Edwin’s (George Rexstrew) adventures solving supernatural mysteries that no one else can, with the help of clairvoyant Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and new friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura).
“Charles was more or less me as a boy,” executive producer and Sandman author Gaiman tells Tudum.

[Warning: This post contains Major spoilers for The Circle Season 6, Episodes 1-8.] For its newest season, Netflix‘s original reality competition series took drastic measures to shake things up. The Circle Season 6, which premiered with its first four episodes on April 17, featured an artificial intelligence contender in addition to multiple catfishing contestants. Things were looking dour for the humans in the crew, since they were completely convinced by Max’s computerized persona… Could the AI win it all? However, when Netflix dropped its second round of episodes on April 24, Max withdrew himself (itself?) from the competition, revealing that Max was not a dog dad but a Cpu no bigger than a purse. That left Brandon aka “Olivia,” Cassie, Carress aka “Paul,” Kyle, Lauren, Steffi, and Quori Tyler aka Qt. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kyle ultimately decided to take out Steffi and was surprised to find out she really was just a yoga- and zodiac-loving little weirdo with a plastic skeleton bestie. After ...

Warner Bros. Discovery has a new tip for TV advertisers: Stop beaming so many of your commercials at older viewers of traditional TV.
The company, which owns boob-tube mainstays like TNT, TBS and Food Network, is launching a new data platform called “Olli” that it says will help sponsors figure out how to put commercials in front of consumers most likely to be interested — without putting the bulk of them before a less-defined mass of viewers binge-watching, say, daytime TV — and instead examine both digital and linear audiences.

One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush can’t stop smiling after opening up publicly about her sexuality for the first time, revealing she’s received so much “safety, respect, and love in the queer community.” The Chicago P.D. actress spoke candidly in her April cover story for Glamour, where she discussed her relationship with retired pro soccer player Ashlyn Harris and coming to terms with her sexuality. “I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum,” Bush explained. “Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.” Bush, who divorced her entrepreneur husband Grant Hughes last August after 13 months of marriage, said she never expected to fall in love with Harris, who was also going through a divorce last year. “I don’t know how else to say it...

Next week, audiences will have a new thriller to savor when The Veil‘s first two episodes hit Hulu. The show looks to offer some more thrilling drama work from its highly decorated lead Elisabeth Moss, including a convincing British accent, some intense fighting sequences (at least one stunt caused Moss to fracture two of her vertebrae), and a chameleonic array of character faces. But is this new international spy series based on a true story? Here’s a look at what we know about the show so far. Is The Veil based on a true story? While some elements of the story are certainly plucked from real life — for example, Western worries about the potential for terrorist attacks and inter-agency disagreements — The Veil is an original story written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). So no, it is not based on a true story. The concept, however, came from executive producer Denise Di Novi,...

“The Sandman,” Neil Gaiman’s classic supernatural comic turned Netflix series, is a sweeping epic in which abstract concepts like Dream (Tom Sturridge) and Death (Kirby) take human form, traversing Earth and the astral plane to settle matters of metaphysical importance. Spinoffs of successful shows often lower the stakes; even “House of the Dragon” merely deals with a continent-spanning civil war, not the potential end of all human life at the hands of ice zombies. Pretty much any stakes would be lower than those of “The Sandman,” but the franchise’s first attempt at expansion scales down to a charmingly...

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains light spoilers for Episode 8 of “The Girls on the Bus.”]
On the April 25 episode of Max’s “The Girls on the Bus,” Sadie (Melissa Benoist) had an abortion.
The matter-of-fact decision for the young reporter is only (“only!”) complicated by the all-too-real problem of Sadie’s political journo travel schedule, and the differing rules of which U.S. state she is in when and how to legally ship the needed pills to the correct location.
“It has to be specific, because I was like, ‘They’re not [campaigning in] a Democratic primary in a deep red state,'” co-creator Amy Chozick, whose reporting memoir upon which the show is based, explained about the logistics. “Then, of course, the rules were changing. As Yellowstone prepares for its final season, the show’s star, Luke Grimes, has opened up about landing his dream role, the hypocrisy of the show’s critics, and his thoughts on Kevin Costner‘s acrimonious exit. Now, I barely notice it.” Despite his awkwardness with his outfit, Grimes, who once lost out on the part of Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, described his Yellowstone part as his “dream role.” “If I could have figured out my dream role at the age that I got that job,...

Two new British series are doing more to electrify the current TV season than a whole streaming platform’s worth of star-studded dramas. Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer may have sent Netflix subscribers down a rabbit hole in search of wrongdoers, but it’s actually a bracingly compassionate look at survivors and their abusers. Camilla Whitehill’s Big Mood, which premiered April 19 on Tubi, similarly ventures into thorny territory with panache, only it keeps one foot firmly planted in comedy the whole time.
