"Stargirl" Casts Cameron Gellman; Carmela Zumbado Joins "You"

Cameron Gellman (Heathers) is set as a series regular in DC Universe’s upcoming Stargirl series. Based on the DC characters, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. Gellman is playing an undisclosed DC character. Geoff Johns, who created the Stargirl character in 1999, will be writing the first episode and executive produces with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Melissa Carter. Chicago Police officials asserted Thursday that actor Jussie Smollett set up a hate crime hoax on Jan. 28 because he was “dissatisfied with his salary” on the Fox series “Empire.”

Police are holding a news conference to discuss the case that has made international headlines amid Smollett’s continued insistence that he was the victim of a vicious attack and he had no involvement in staging the incident. Smollett surrendered to police Thursday morning and will be charged today with filing a false police report.

"Lost Boys": Tyler Posey to Star in CW Pilot, Catherine Hardwicke to Direct

The CW has found the cast and director for its “Lost Boys” pilot.

Teen Wolf” alum Tyler Posey has signed on to star in the adaptation as Michael, one of the two sons who move to the seaside town of Santa Carla with their mother. “Kingdom” alum Kiele Sanchez will play their mother Lucy, while the role of the younger brother has not yet been cast.

Medalion Rahimi (“Still Star-Crossed”) has also been cast in the pilot as Stella, the carefree Californian who has an immediate spark with Michael. Her boyfriend David, the bad-boy leader of a vampire gang, will be played by Dakota Shapiro (“Valley of the Boom”).

Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke is also set to return to the vampire genre as director of the Warner Bros. TV pilot.

‘The Walking Dead’ Drops to All-Time Low in Ratings and Viewers
The Walking Dead” definitely isn’t dead, but it is at an all-time low.

Sunday’s episode, titled “Omega,” averaged a 1.7 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, down 15 percent from the prior week’s midseason premiere and slightly below its previous all-time demo low of 1.8 last fall.

This week also marked the show’s worst-ever performance in total viewers with 4.54 million people tuned in for Sunday’s episode. That’s down 12 percent from last week and less than the previous low of 4.71 million for the show’s second episode in 2010.

The episode aired against the NBC All-Star Game on TNT and TBS, likely accounting for the week-over-week declines.

Jussie Smollett’s Bail Set at $100,000, Must Surrender Passport
A Chicago judge set a $100,000 bond for Jussie Smollett on Thursday, as the “Empire” actor made his first court appearance.

Smollett faces one felony count of filing a false police report. Police allege that Smollett staged a Jan. 29 attack, telling police that he was accosted by two men who used racial and homophobic slurs.

If convicted, he could face one to three years in prison, though he could also be sentenced to probation. Smollett could also be ordered to repay the cost of the Chicago Police Department investigation.

Police allege that Smollett paid Abel and Ola Osundairo $3500 to carry out the attack.

The estate of Michael Jackson sued HBO on Thursday, accusing the cable channel of violating a non-disparagement clause by agreeing to run “Leaving Neverland,” a documentary accusing Jackson of sexual abuse.

The suit seeks to compel HBO to litigate the matter in a public arbitration process, and claims that the estate could be awarded $100 million or more in damages.

Netflix’s Haunting franchise has a new address. Shortly after announcing that the drama series previously known as The Haunting of Hill House will return for a second season, the streamer confirmed the new title/setting: The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Based on Henry James’ 1898 gothic horror novella The Turn of the Screw, Bly Manor will similarly be set at an old country mansion. Production will begin later this year ahead of a 2020 launch.
