Gillian Anderson to Play Margaret Thatcher in Season 4 of ‘The Crown’ (Report)
The Crown” has found its Iron Lady. Gillian Anderson is said to have signed on to play British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of the much-praised Netflix drama series.

Anderson’s casting was first reported by the Sunday Times. A Netflix rep declined to comment on the report.

Anderson is the latest notable name to join “The Crown” in the role of an iconic real-life political figure, following John Lithgow’s turn as Winston Churchill. The series is poised for a shift in its upcoming third season as Olivia Colman moves into the role of Queen Elizabeth II

‘Dirty John’ Finale Hits New Ratings Highs in Live+3
The Season 1 finale of “Dirty John” on Bravo continued the scripted show’s ratings hot streak in Live+3.

The finale, which aired on Jan. 13, grew to 3.3 million viewers in delayed viewing with 1.3 million of those falling in the key adults 18-49 demographic. That is up 10% in total viewers and 15% in the key demo compared to the L+3 numbers for the previous week’s episode.

The show finished its freshman run as a top 10 cable scripted series in adults 18-49 for all of 2018. “Dirty John” is also Bravo’s highest-rated freshman series in 4 and a half years among total viewers.

Amazon Launching ‘The Expanse’ Seasons 1-3 Worldwide Ahead of Season 4 Premiere

Amazon has acquired worldwide subscription-streaming rights to the first three seasons of “The Expanse,” the space thriller that originally aired on Syfy, leading up to Prime Video’s debut of season 4 later in 2019.

Seasons 1-2 of “The Expanse” are currently available in the U.S. on Prime Video. All three seasons, comprising 36 episodes in all, will become available on the service in over 200 countries and territories starting Feb. 8.

Lighthouse Studios has named Claire Finn its new managing director. The animation studio is based in Kilkenny, Ireland, and has just finished work on Amazon series “Bug Diaries,” and started on another kids project for the streamer, the second season of “Give a Mouse a Cookie.”

Lighthouse is a joint venture between Mercury Filmworks, one of Canada’s best-known independent animation studios, and Cartoon Saloon, which is also based in Kilkenny and has had three Oscar nominations.

Natpe: Blue Ant Locks Down International Deals for British ‘Prison’ Series

The sales arm of Blue Ant has closed a raft of programming deals with international channels, including for British series “Prison,” as the Natpe market gets underway in Miami.

Blue Ant International has sold “Prison,” the factual series about life inside a jail in Durham, England, to multiple territories. Germany’s Welt, Belgium’s Vrt, Norway’s TV2, and Rtl in the Netherlands have all acquired the Spring Films-produced show. The hard-hitting three-parter was broadcast on Channel 4 in the U.K. It goes behind prison walls, showing the drug problems, violence, and other day-to-day issues facing staff and inmates.

Natpe: NBCU Cooks Up Brazil Deal for ‘Top Chef’

Brazilian network Record is adding “Top Chef” to its menu. The popular cooking competition format is on NBCUniversal’s Bravo in the U.S. where it is in its sixteenth season. The format deal with Record will take the number of international remakes of the show to 24.

Recent deals include with ProSiebenSat.1 in Germany. NBCUniversal’s International Formats division sells the remake rights internationally and struck the Record deal.

In Brazil “Top Chef” will be made by Floresta, which is a joint venture between producer Elizabetta Zenatti and Sony Pictures Television. The local version will run to 13 parts and air this year.

Natpe: ‘Brazil Avenue’s’ Joao Emanuel Carneiro on ‘Second Chance’

Miami — To be presented Tuesday at Natpe by Globo, “Second Chance” marks “Central Station” co-screenwriter Joao Emanuel Carneiro’s second telenovela after “Brazil Avenue,” which he also created.

Those are pretty hard acts to follow. Directed by Walter Salles, “Central Station” was nominated for two Academy Awards, foreign-language and best actress for Fernanda Montenegro: “Brazil Avenue,” became Brazil’s most-watched, most-sold novel ever.

In “Second Chance,” Carneiro returns to a story of a broken family reunited. This is also a woman’s empowerment tale about Luzia, forced to abandon her children and flee for her life, but returns years later to reclaim them.
