Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan has some powerful enemies.
While discussing Khan’s work taking on tech monopolies with Jon Stewart on Monday night’s Daily Show, Stewart shared that he’d originally planned to interview the FTC chair on the podcast for his Apple TV+ series The Problem With Jon Stewart–until his bosses there asked him not to.
Nominated by President Biden to the FTC in 2021 when she was just 31 years old, Khan is best known for her work in antitrust and competition law. Under her leadership, the Commission has launched several high-profile lawsuits against tech giants Microsoft, Meta and Amazon.
“I wanted to have you on a podcast and Apple asked us not to do it,” Stewart told Khan Monday.
“They literally said, ‘Please don’t talk to her,’” he continued. “Like, what is that sensitivity? Why are they so afraid to even have these conversations out in the public sphere?...

The Late Show family is mourning the loss of Stephen Colbert’s longtime executive assistant Amy Cole tonight.
Cole was just 53 and is said to have recently been diagnosed with cancer. A close friend confirms she died earlier today.
The show paid tribute to Cole at the end of Monday night’s show with a title card that read “Dedicated to our dear friend Amy Cole, 1970-2024.”
Audience members who attended today’s show reported that the otherwise jovial taping took a serious turn at the end when Colbert asked the crowd to hold their applause and he appeared to be at a loss for words before tearfully saying goodnight.
Audience members did not see the title card, nor was it explained to them why Colbert was so upset. The stunned crowd watched in silence as he got up from his desk and quietly left the studio.

Missed Monday’s late-night monologues? We’ve got you covered with our round-up of the night’s best laughs from across the dial.
Trans-parent Hypocrites
With Easter taking place this past Sunday, the usual suspects swung right into the holiday spirit in the only way they know how—seeking out non-controversies to get performatively offended by. Fox News and other bad-faith practitioners seized upon President Biden’s Sunday message of support for the trans community on the International Transgender Day of Visibility to vent some predictable ire.
Apart from the fact that trans people exist, what could Fox pundits, Republican politicians, and other internet trolls have against the President publicly embracing a community increasingly endangered by thuggish bigotry and violence? Well, this year’s celebration happened to fall on Easter, a coincidence most anti-trans complainers accused of being “anti-Christian,” despite the holiday always being celebrated on March 31, while Easter (following...

Tell us who you suspect, and why, in the comments below. The amusing plotline about our favorite tech nerd’s spouse encouraging him to go clean-shaven was a runner in an episode that saw the team get tangled up in a case involving UAPs. “The thing about McGee is that he’s a very based in science kind of guy, but at the same time, he’s got a romantic, sort of old-fashioned nature to him. McGee really does feel like, as much as science may pull him in the other direction, there’s something out there,” Murray told us in our weekly ...

Jeopardy!‘s Invitational Tournament quarterfinals continued with an all-new April 1 match between Sam Buttrey, Colby Burnett, and Lilly Chin. This post was originally published in July 2023. We’ve updated it to coincide with “Sex and the City” coming to Netflix April 1.
Seasons change, and so do cities. One thing that doesn’t? Fans’ enduring love for “Sex and the City,” the HBO comedy that premiered in 1998.
Endlessly spoofed but also deeply, earnestly loved by millions, the groundbreaking series wrapped its original six-season, 94-episode run in 2004, with a not-terrible, not-great 2008 feature film and a truly terrible sequel following in 2010. In 2021, spinoff series “And Just Like That” — without Kim Cattrall’s iconic Samantha Jones — premiered on Max (née HBO Max). A second season of “And Just Like That” began airing in June 2023, following the misadventures of a 50-something Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda. The spinoff show has received mixed reviews from fans and critics — the less said about Che Diaz, the better — but plenty still can’t stay away from their favorite girls,...

Turns out the story originated on a “satire” site called esspots earlier in March. Snopes debunked the story then, and posted an update earlier today.
True or not, commenters on the Facebook post heralded the news.

Huffman is slated to play Dr. Jill Gideon, the ex-wife of Jason Gideon (formerly played by Mandy Patinkin). Dr. Jill Gideon is described as “a brilliant psychiatrist who agrees to help the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory.” (Credit: Frederic Auerbach) Initially, Jill is reluctant to join the Bau due to her complicated history with Joe Mantegna‘s David Rossi and her dead ex, Jason. But apprehension only goes so far because Jill’s specific set of skills could be the answer to uncovering a clue tied to the elusive Gold Star mystery, introduced at the end of the revival’s first season. It’s another Jon Stewart Monday at the Daily Show, with the host set to welcome his first goverment official since returning to the Comedy Central series in February.
Stewart’s guest tonight will be Lina Khan, chair of the Federal Trade Commission.
Nominated by President Biden to the FTC when she was just 31 years old, Khan is best known for her work in antitrust and competition law.
Under her leadership, the Commission has pushed to ban non-compete agreements, filed lawsuits against health care companies engaging in anti-competitive practices, and launched several high-profile lawsuits against tech giants Microsoft, Meta and Amazon.
The case against Amazon, which 17 states have joined the FTC in bringing, focuses on the tech giant’s alleged use of unfair tactics to ensure it always offers the lowest prices on the internet. If successful, could mean huge changes for the Amazon, including a possible breakup of the internet goliath.

The Pogues will be setting sail on their next adventure in Outer Banks Season 4, but the chill, consequence-free life they once knew is no more. Despite an 18-month time jump, John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) will still be dealing with the fallout of the Season 3 finale in Season 4. “Anytime you experience loss, it hits in spaces and in places that you don’t anticipate,” Stokes tells People. “Being in the situation that John B and Sarah are in, it really will force them to evaluate everything. Where they are, what their purpose is, what their intentions are, and what was the actual value of it? Was it worth it, in hindsight? If they could go back and change things, would they? Or do they feel okay with it?” Sarah and John B lost their fathers on the same day and had to watch them die in front of their eyes.

Former The Bachelor contestant Jenn Tran is the new Bachelorette for Season 21. The 25-year-old Vietnamese American was among the final six in the running for Bachelor Joey Graziadei’s heart, but despite being eliminated in Episode 7, she left enough of an impression for producers to bring her back. Though the announcement was a bit anticlimactic, Tran is still making history as the first Asian American Bachelorette.
Tran said she feels “grateful and honored” to have been chosen. She shared during the finale that “Growing up, I’ve always wanted to see Asian representation on TV. I feel like it was really sparse. Anytime Asians were in the media, it was to fill a supporting character role, to fulfill some sort of stereotype and I always felt boxed in by that because I was like, I don’t see myself on screen. I don’t see myself as a main character.

Ewan McGregor wants to go au naturel for roles, and that includes growing his own facial hair as needed.
The “A Gentleman in Moscow” star told The New York Times that he opted to have his own mustache for the Russian Revolution-set Paramount+ Showtime series. He’s had “terrible” experiences in the past with fake hair.
“I had to,” McGregor said of growing his own mustache. “I couldn’t have a stuck-on mustache. I’ve had them in the past and they’re terrible to wear.”
McGregor continued of the process, “You come in in the morning, you’ve had to shave and then you put glue on that shaved skin, which is [fucking] horrible. Then you stick it on and it stops you from moving your face. The last thing you want to be thinking about when you’re acting is not moving. So I grew my own.”

Gerry is still living at his Northern Indiana lake house, while Theresa still resides in New Jersey. Sources told TMZ there are a number of reasons the couple have chosen to live separately. Firstly, both have their own established homes in their respective states, and moving everything to one location would be a time-consuming hassle. Secondly, Theresa still works in New Jersey as a compliance officer and hasn’t yet decided whether she’ll remain in the job or look for something different.
