Jennifer Garner to Star in Apple Limited Series, Reunite With J.J. Abrams
It’s not an Alias revival, but we’ll take it: Jennifer Garner is set to star in a limited series for Apple, reuniting her with Alias creator J.J. Abrams.

Apple has handed a straight-to-series order to the project, titled My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, based on the memoir by Amy Silverstein. The memoir follows a woman awaiting a last-minute heart transplant, and her close female friends who supported her along the way. Karen Croner (Admission) will pen the series and also serve as an executive producer.

Garner and Abrams will both also serve as EPs on the limited series.

"One Dollar" Canceled by CBS All Access After One Season

One Dollar” has the ignominious distinction of being the first CBS All Access original series to be canceled.

Variety has confirmed that the streaming service will not be bringing the drama series back for a second season. The series was set in a small rust belt town in post-recession America, where a one-dollar bill changing hands connects a group of characters involved in a shocking multiple murder. It starred John Carroll Lynch, Nathaniel Martello-White, Christopher Denham, Philip Ettinger, Kirrilee Berger, Gracie Lawrence, Joshua Bitton, Nike Uche Kadri, and Hamilton Clancy.

The series was created by Jason Mosberg, who executive produced along with Craig Zobel, Matt DeRoss, Alexandre Dauman, and Graham Gordy. CBS Television Studios produced in association with Anonymous Content

"The Mandalorian" Adds Giancarlo Esposito, Werner Herzog, Carl Weathers to Cast

The Mandalorian” cast has taken shape.

The upcoming live-action “Star Wars” streaming series has revealed that the cast now includes Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, and Werner Herzog. They join previously announced cast members Pedro Pascal, Nick Nolte, and Gina Carano. As with all things “Star Wars,” the exact nature of each actor’s role is being kept under wraps, though it has been officially confirmed that Pascal will play the title role in the series.

The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. It follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. It will air on Disney+.

Though it’s not yet clear what prompted the competition series to sit out a midseason run, Dancing is coming off a controversial 27th season. After multiple well-scored frontrunners were eliminated prematurely (including R&B singer Tinashe and Fuller House actor Juan Pablo Di Pace), the Mirrorball was ultimately awarded to country radio DJ — and very dark horse — Bobby Bones, who had scored much lower than his three fellow finalists.

Number of Streaming Shows Overtakes Basic Cable, Broadcast for First Time, FX Reports

Streaming services snatched their biggest piece of the TV pie ever in 2018.

According to FX’s annual report on the number of scripted originals on TV, the number of streaming shows has surpassed the number of basic cable and broadcast shows for the first time ever. Out of 495 scripted originals that aired in 2018, 160 of them did so on a streaming platform. That is compared to 146 on broadcast and 144 on basic cable. Pay cable accounted for the remaining 45 shows.

Streaming shows also saw the biggest increase year-to-year, growing from 117 last year. Broadcast dipped slightly, dropping from 153 in 2017. Basic cable saw a more sharp decline,

Jennifer Garner, J.J. Abrams Reunite for Limited Series at Apple

Apple has given a straight-to-series order to a limited series starring Jennifer Garner and executive produced by Jj Abrams, Variety has learned.

“My Glory Was I Had Such Friends,” based on the 2017 memoir of the same name by Amy Silverstein, follows a group of women who supported Silverstein as she waited for a second life-saving heart transplant.

The series reunites Garner and Abrams, who first collaborated on the ABC series “Alias.” Garner starred in the drama series, which Abrams created.

Karen Croner will serve as writer and executive producer. Abrams executive produces along with Ben Stephenson of Abrams’ Bad Robot and Silverstein.
