Jussie Smollett Arrested, in Custody of Chicago Police
Jussie Smollett has been arrested and faces criminal charges for allegedly filing a false police report and for disorderly conduct. Chicago police tweeted Thursday morning that the “Empire” actor was under arrest and in custody of detectives.

Smollett claimed that he had been attacked by two men on Jan. 29 — he said they beat him, tied a rope around his neck, and doused him with bleach. He also claimed that they shouted racist and homophobic slurs during the assault. However, police now believe that Smollett paid two acquaintances, brothers Olabinjo Osundairo and Abimbola Osundairo, to help him orchestrate the attack. The men have reportedly been cooperating with investigators.

In a Feb. 14 interview on “Good Morning America,” Smollett hit back at skeptics. “If I had said it was a Muslim or a Mexican or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot more,” Smollett said during the TV interview.

The media-measurement firm has formed Nielsen Advanced Video Advertising, a new group focusing on developing addressable advertising initially for internet-connected smart TVs.

To fill what it says was a missing link in its portfolio, Nielsen last week acquired Sorenson Media, an addressable TV technology provider, in a bankruptcy-court proceeding with a winning $11.25 million bid. Sorenson had filed for Chapter 11 reorganization last fall, citing an “onerous

‘Desus & Mero’: The Bodega Boys Are Ready to Shake Up Late Night All Over Again
After leaving Viceland, “Desus & Mero” is getting a major upgrade when it premieres on Showtime Thursday night. Hosts Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, aka The Bodega Boys, aren’t sweating the transition though. “In the alternate universe, we are probably working at the bodega, stocking shelves,” said Mero at a Television Critics Association press day earlier this month. Desus added, “When we first started our show, we were so broke. He had to scan me in on the subway because I had no money to go to the studio. That’s where the confidence comes from; we can’t lose because we already won.”

Showtime is just as high on the two Bronx personalities: The network put an offer out to Desus and Mero even before Viceland dropped them, and hyped the premiere with a Super Bowl spot and some synergistic ads. Showtime Entertainment co-president Gary Levine said,

Bryan Singer-Fronted ‘Red Sonja’ Movie Mercifully Shelved Amid Allegations of Director’s Sexual Misconduct

One thing that I’ve noticed while looking back on the best movies of the 90s, so very, very many of them are made by who we now recognize as a lot of very, very gross people. The decade saw the rise of Miramax and, by extension, Harvey Weinstein. It saw the proliferation of Kevin Spacey as a major, A-list actor. It saw the rise of Bryan Singer as the mainstream director who would eventually oversee the birth of the X-Men movies and leave an indelible mark on one of this century’s most prominent blockbuster franchises. The sad fact of the

Despite Disingenuous Pre-Screening Review Bombing, ‘Captain Marvel’ Receives Rapturous Early Press Reactions

Of the recent trends in movie fandom this last decade, one of the most infuriating has got to be the rise of the hyper-reactionary internet anti-fanboy. These are the retrograde “fans” that necessarily need to pick a side in the petty culture rivalries that played out in nerd circles decades ago: Marvel v DC, Star Wars v Star Trek, Kirk v Picard. These are the people who aren’t satisfied when their pet franchise is doing well, it has to do better than its supposed rival. It has to beat them. To them, pop culture is a zero sum game that
