Mindy Kaling, Netflix Team for Comedy Series Based on Her Childhood
Netflix has ordered a coming-of-age comedy series inspired by the life of Mindy Kaling, Variety has learned.

Both Kaling and Fisher will executive produce along with Howard Klein and David Miner. The series was set up under Kaling’s overall deal at Universal Television, with Universal set to produce the new series. Kaling recently exited that deal for a rich new pact with Warner Bros. Television.

In a previous interview with Variety, Kaling described how the series came to be. “Netflix approached me about doing a series on young Mindy,” she said. “I wasn’t as interested in telling a period piece about an Indian girl growing up in the ’80s,

We Already Have a Good Idea of When
We still have a few episodes left of This Is Us season three, but you can rest assured that there is more Pearson family drama to look forward to. While the show hasn't officially been renewed yet, the stars and creators have more or less confirmed that they have three more seasons in store. And after what they told Good Housekeeping about season four, we are more than ready!

So, just how long do we have to wait until the new season premieres? Not long at all. In the past, This Is Us has premiered in the Fall. If season four follows suit, we can probably expect new episodes sometime in September. It's also likely that the story will pick up as the Big Three celebrate their 39th birthday, just like past seasons. We are definitely interested to see how Randall, Kate, and Kevin navigate the last year of their 30s.

  • The Wrap
Ratings: NBC’s
NBC topped Tuesday in demo ratings thanks to “Ellen’s Game of Games” and “This Is Us.” Its series premiere of “The Village” wasn’t as big, but it still won at 10 p.m.

Though Fox’s debut of “Mental Samurai” at 9 o’clock wasn’t great, a “MasterChef Junior” lead-in and the network’s abbreviated primetime hours allowed it to tie for second in the key 18-49 demographic, running neck-and-neck with ABC.

CBS finished first in total viewers despite coming in last among the so-called Big 4 broadcasters in terms of demo ratings.

What’s Your Damage? Why a ’Heathers’ TV Adaptation Hasn’t Worked — Yet
As “Heathers” approaches the 30th anniversary of its U.S. premiere, television has made yet another failed attempt to pay homage to Michael Lehmann’s 1989 pitch-black high school comedy. The cult classic starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater inspired a whole genre of dark school comedies that tried to emulate the film’s quippy dialogue, heightened style, and satirical look at the grim realities of teenage life.

Add to that list of imitators The CW’s Archie Comics melodrama “Riverdale,” which presented its second musical episode on Wednesday. This time around, it featured the Broadway musical “Heathers,” which is a more heartfelt and navel-gazing adaptation of the movie. Even though the gothic “Riverdale” would seem like a good fit for this homicidal high school tale, the show managed to fail in honoring both the film and stage versions of “Heathers.”

In fact, it didn’t even try. There’s no
