Martin Freeman Parenting Comedy ‘Breeders’ Gets Series Order From FX
FX has given a 10-episode series order to “Breeders,” a new sitcom that will star Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard.

The first season will be produced by FX Productions, Avalon Television and Sky Original Productions and will debut on FX in 2020.

Co-created by Simon Blackwell, Chris Addison and Freeman, “Breeders” will explore “the parental-paradox that it is possible, in the very same moment, to love your child to the horizon of the universe, while being apoplectically angry enough to want to send them there. Martin Freeman stars as a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was.”

Blackwell, best known for his work writing for shows like “Peep Show,” “The Thick of It,” and “Veep,” on which he also served as an executive producer and won two Emmys, will serve as showrunner.

‘Transparent’ Series Finale Will Be a Musical Episode
Transparent” will end its fifth and final season with a musical episode, series creator Jill Soloway told the New York Times on Saturday.

“It will hopefully feel like ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ mixed with ‘La La Land’ mixed with ‘Flight of the Conchords’ with something more Jewish thrown in,” Soloway said. “A little ‘Yentl.'”

The Times reported that the episode will be a two-hour production set to air sometime next fall.

However, an individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap that the episode’s specific running time, and other creative details, are still being figured out.

About Premium Content, the Paris-based co-production and sales company, has signed major deals on the hit drama “Keeping Faith,” the British female-fronted thriller which has just been greenlit for a second season by BBC One.

Acorn Media Enterprises has come on board to co-produce the second season and has picked all rights to the show in the Us, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as home entertainment rights in the U.K. and Southern Ireland. Acorn Media International will handle distribution rights for the series in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Southern Ireland.

Buzzed-up heading into this year’s Mipcom and selected as one of Variety’s top titles at the market, ITV’s Mammoth Screen-produced “The War of the Worlds” has announced international pre-sales covering 80 territories.

Based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells, the series is set to be the first ever British made-for-tv adaptation of the story, produced for BBC One by ITV-backed Mammoth Screen. Mipcom: Beta, Wildside, Zeitsprung Launch ‘German Moon’
Germany’s Beta Film, Italy’s Wildside, German production outlet Zeitsprung and the Isreali writer/creator trio Nadav Schirman, Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen have joined forces to launch “German Moon” at Mipcom. The series is inspired by the true story of former Nazi scientists who were behind Nasa’s first manned mission to the Moon, with the focus on the scientists’ families, who travelled with them to the U.S.

The series starts in 1950 when sleepy town Huntsville, Alabama was overwhelmed by a wave of immigration: A convoy of buses with scores of German families on board crosses the Tennessee River.

Cannes — Netflix has snapped up international rights to the Hebrew-language drama series “When Heroes Fly” from Keshet International.

The deal comes on the eve of the Mipcom international TV sales conference, which runs Monday through Thursday.

When Heroes Fly” revolves around the story of four Israeli army war veterans who reunite after more than a decade apart to undertake a final rescue mission in the Colombian jungle. Keshet in the process of adapting the series for the U.S. market.

Smithsonian Announces New Original Series for 2019

Smithsonian Channel announced Monday at Mipcom four original non-fiction series which will launch on the network in the coming year.

Premiering in the first quarter of 2019, “America’s Hidden Stories” will look to give the cold case treatment to iconic moments in history, going through old records, implementing new technologies and tracking down eye-witness testimony in an effort to resolve age-old mysteries or to alter the way some historic events are perceived. Atrium TV is a drama commissioning club that has telcos and pay-tv platforms as members. They were in Cannes to run the rule over new projects and others already in development. Members include BT from the U.K., Televisa from Mexico, Orange from France, and Movistar+ from Spain. They co-fund scripted series and launch them domestically as original productions. Arts and culture U.S. cable network Ovation snagged the six-part “The Pacific: In The Wake of Captain Cook with Sam Neill” as part of wider deal with Sky Vision, the content and distribution arm of European pay TV giant Sky.

The six-part documentary series sees Neill, soon to be seen in the remake of “Rams,” retrace Captain Cook’s voyage across the largest ocean in the world, and delve into Cook’s legacy.

International buyers have signed up for the upcoming season of murder mystery drama “Agatha Raisin.” Sky has prebought the second season for the U.K. and Ireland, Zdf has it for Germany, and Australian pubcaster the ABC has also snagged the show.

“Agatha Raisin” stars Ashley Jensen (“Extras”) as the titular PR executive and amateur sleuth. Pay-tv platform Sky commissioned the first season of the show, and streaming service Acorn greenlit the second series, which will run as an original on its Svod platform. Last December’s Madrid TV Pitchbox helped TV projects gain visibility in front of a group of executives at high-profile TV companies.
