‘NYPD Blue’ Follow-Up Series Lands Pilot Production Commitment at ABC
A new installment of “NYPD Blue” has scored a pilot production commitment at ABC, Variety has learned.

The new series follows Andy Sipowicz’s son, Theo, as he tries to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder. Original series writers and executive producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton will write and executive produce the new show, with Jesse Bochco–son of “NYPD Blue” co-creator Steven Bocho–executive producing and directing. Dayna Bochco, Steven’s wife, will produce. ABC Studios will produce in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

Olmstead is repped by Wme and Bloom Hergott.

‘Orange Is the New Black’ to End With Season 7
Orange Is the New Black” is set to end after its upcoming seventh season on Netflix. The cast of the series broke the news in a video post on Wednesday, which can be viewed below.

Netflix had renewed the Lionsgate-produced series for three seasons ahead of the Season 4 premiere in 2016. As part of the deal, series showrunner Jenji Kohan will remain in that role through Season 7. The critically-acclaimed dramedy initially followed the inmates of Litchfield Minimum Security Prison, with Season 6 seeing many of the main cast move to the Maximum Security Prison often mentioned in the series.

The series stars Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Danielle Brooks, Selenis Leyva, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Lea DeLaria, Adrienne C. Moore, Elizabeth Rodriguez Michael Harney and Nick Sandow. Lionsgate produces the series for Netflix.

The series is titled “It Takes Two,” based on the Scott brothers’ memoir of the same name. The show follows two entrepreneurial twin brothers who decide to join forces in the real estate business when they realize they are stronger together than apart. Fox has given the project a script commitment with a penalty attached.

The series was created by executive producers Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano, with Duplass Brothers Productions producing. The animated comedy series focused on the downtrodden creatures native New York City, including rats, pigeons, and bedbugs. ABC has given a full-season order to freshman comedy “Single Parents.”

The pick-up makes “Single Parents” the first new series of the season to have its order extended by ABC. Through its first three episodes, the series, from 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios is averaging an audience of 5.6 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demo according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day numbers. Ratings: Empire Leads as Survivor Dips

After slugging out with Survivor the past couple of weeks, Fox’s Empire this Wednesday held steady to score the nightly demo win, scoring a 1.6 rating to go with its 5.2 million viewers.

Leading out of that, Star (3.8 mil/1.2) was down a tenth.

CBS’ Survivor (7.3 mil/1.4) slipped two tenths in the demo, while Seal Team (5.5 mil/0.8) and Criminal Minds (4.5 mil/0.7) each dipped a tenth, both matching series lows.

Elsewhere….

NBC | Chicago Med (7.6 mil/1.2) and Fire (7.9 mil/1.3) each dipped a tenth, while P.D. (7 mil/1.2) was steady. Of note, NBC averaged 1.9 million more viewers than the same Wednesday a year ago.

For their next stop in dramatizing the international illicit drug trade, Netflix is going back closer to the beginning. “Narcos: Mexico,” the impending offshoot of the streaming service’s long running Pablo Escobar-centered series, is taking its story from Colombia to Guadalajara and bringing an impressive cast with it.

After three years of the original “Narcos” that encompassed Escobar’s rise and downfall, this fourth season of the show goes back in time to start at the outset of the 1980s. Diego Luna stars as Félix Gallardo, another real-life figure in the annals of illegal drug trafficking, who created the Guadalajara Cartel. On the other side of this pursuit is the DEA’s Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña), trying to balance his family life with an expanded pursuit of Gallardo through Mexico.
