Martin Freeman Parenting Comedy ‘Breeders’ Gets Series Order From FX
FX has given a 10-episode series order to “Breeders,” a new sitcom that will star Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard.

The first season will be produced by FX Productions, Avalon Television and Sky Original Productions and will debut on FX in 2020.

Co-created by Simon Blackwell, Chris Addison and Freeman, “Breeders” will explore “the parental-paradox that it is possible, in the very same moment, to love your child to the horizon of the universe, while being apoplectically angry enough to want to send them there. Martin Freeman stars as a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was.”

Blackwell, best known for his work writing for shows like “Peep Show,” “The Thick of It,” and “Veep,” on which he also served as an executive producer and won two Emmys, will serve as showrunner.

‘Transparent’ Series Finale Will Be a Musical Episode
Transparent” will end its fifth and final season with a musical episode, series creator Jill Soloway told the New York Times on Saturday.

“It will hopefully feel like ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ mixed with ‘La La Land’ mixed with ‘Flight of the Conchords’ with something more Jewish thrown in,” Soloway said. “A little ‘Yentl.'”

The Times reported that the episode will be a two-hour production set to air sometime next fall.

However, an individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap that the episode’s specific running time, and other creative details, are still being figured out.

About Premium Content, the Paris-based co-production and sales company, has signed major deals on the hit drama “Keeping Faith,” the British female-fronted thriller which has just been greenlit for a second season by BBC One.

Acorn Media Enterprises has come on board to co-produce the second season and has picked all rights to the show in the Us, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as home entertainment rights in the U.K. and Southern Ireland. Acorn Media International will handle distribution rights for the series in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Southern Ireland.

CBS News Launches Streaming-Video Morning Program

TV’s morning-news wars have a new competitor.

CBS News, which already produces “CBS This Morning,” unveiled “Cbsn Am,” a one-hour morning program built for its Cbsn streaming-video hub. The program. anchored by Anne-Marie Green and Vladimir Duthiers, launched today.

The show will stream between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. eastern. Green will anchor the full hour and Duthiers, who often appears on “CBS This Morning,” will join her at 7:30 a.m.

Projects By Portocabo, Ficción, Zenit Vie for St. James Way Award

Portocabo TV, Ficción Producciones and Zenit TV figure among the five companies receiving Galician government moneys to develop audiovisual projects aimed at promoting the cultural values of St. James Way.

Ideas pitched by Agallas Films and Diez Caminos have also made the cut.

The five proposals, four TV series and a feature film, will share a total €75,000 to help finance their respective pre-production.

Tele München Group’s world sales unit, Tm International, has sold its high-end television series “The Name of the Rose,” starring John Turturro, to multiple territories, including the BBC in the U.K., Sky in Germany and Ocs in France.

Additionally it has been acquired by Yle in Finland, Nrk in Norway, Dr in Denmark, Sbs in Australia, Vrt in Belgium, Rtp in Portugal, Ceska TV in Czech Republic, Sky in New Zealand, and Iti in Poland. As previously announced, AMC’s SundanceTV holds the rights for the U.S. and Canada, and Rai will air the show in Italy.

Mipcom: Endemol Shine Boomdog, Somos Prods to Co-Produce Saint Juan Diego Scripted Series

Endemol Shine Boomdog, a unit of Endemol Shine North America, is exploring a religious theme in its drive to create more original scripted series. The Mexico City-based shingle has teamed with Somos Prods. to co-develop the first-ever series based on Saint Juan Diego, the first Mexican-born saint.

To be produced by Endemol Shine Boomdog and Somos Prods, “Juan Diego: The Story of Guadalupe” will be sold worldwide by Somos Distribution.

The two companies have also been developing a TV series based on renowned Latin boy band Menudo, “Subete a Mi Moto—The History of Menudo.”

Germany’s Beta Film, Italy’s Wildside, German production outlet Zeitsprung and the Isreali writer/creator trio Nadav Schirman, Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen have joined forces to launch “German Moon” at Mipcom. The series is inspired by the true story of former Nazi scientists who were behind Nasa’s first manned mission to the Moon, with the focus on the scientists’ families, who travelled with them to the U.S.

The series starts in 1950 when sleepy town Huntsville, Alabama was overwhelmed by a wave of immigration: A convoy of buses with scores of German families on board crosses the Tennessee River.

Smithsonian Announces New Original Series for 2019

Joseph Fiennes Plans to Produce and Star in Cyrano de Bergerac Series for Atrium TV
Joseph Fiennes was in Cannes, Sunday, to talk to potential partners about “Cyrano,” his “Cyrano de Bergerac” series project for Atrium TV.

Atrium TV is a drama commissioning club that has telcos and pay-tv platforms as members. They were in Cannes to run the rule over new projects and others already in development. Members include BT from the U.K., Televisa from Mexico, Orange from France, and Movistar+ from Spain. They co-fund scripted series and launch them domestically as original productions. Atrium is backed by distributor Drg, which then sells the shows outside of the territories in which they were commissioned.
