‘Westworld’s’ Shannon Woodward to Produce Series Based on Nxivm Sex Cult
Annapurna Television is developing a scripted series inspired by the alleged sex cult NXIVM, with “Westworld” actress Shannon Woodward attached to executive produce.

The potential series is based on the New York Times report about the group published last year. The report, authored by Barry Meier, featured interviews with multiple women who said the purported self-help group, led by Keith Raniere, recruited women to serve as “slaves” and branded them with Raniere’s initials.

No writer is attached yet, but Woodward will executive produce along with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle and Susan Goldberg of Annapurna.

The group has come under renewed interest in recent weeks, after Raniere was arrested in Mexico last month on charges of sex trafficking. “Smallville” star Allison Mack, who was identified as Raniere’s top lieutenant in the Times report, was arrested last week.

Alan Ball’s Drama ‘Here and Now’ Canceled By HBO After One Season

Alan Ball’s Drama ‘Here and Now’ Canceled By HBO After One Season
Exclusive: HBO is not renewing Alan Ball’s family drama Here and Now for a second season. The news comes 10 days after the series’ Season 1 finale.

“After careful consideration we have decided not to move forward with a second season of Here and Now,” HBO said in a statement to Deadline. “We thank Alan for his dedication to innovative storytelling, and we look forward to his next endeavor.”

Here and Now, which starred Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter, stemmed from Ball’s close relationship with the previous HBO regimes. It was a rare miss for the Oscar and Emmy winner, creator of HBO’s signature series True Blood and Six Feet Under and executive producer of Cinemax’s biggest hit Banshee. In addition to a lukewarm reception from critics, Here and Now also drew modest viewership for an HBO drama series, averaging 300,000-400,000 Live+same day viewers for the premiere telecast.

For about three years after its release in 2011 Real Steel was thought to be ready to take on a sequel that might see it go in a different direction than the original had left off with. ‘Atlanta,’ ‘Legion,’ ‘The Good Place’ and More Series Break Down Heady Philosophical Riddles — No Textbook Required

‘Atlanta,’ ‘Legion,’ ‘The Good Place’ and More Series Break Down Heady Philosophical Riddles — No Textbook Required
“Everyone hates moral philosophers,” Chidi, a former ethics teacher, says on “The Good Place.”

This sentiment may have been true a few years ago, but that was before the NBC comedy made philosophy the driving engine for its compelling storytelling.

Bringing a proper discussion of philosophy to a medium meant to entertain might seem like a daunting prospect, but shows like “The Good Place,” “Atlanta,” “Legion,” and “A.P. Bio” have incorporated these discussions in an organic way. And because so many of those shows are comedies, it’s made philosophy much more accessible to audiences who might otherwise never consider the subject. It’s given a new dimension to shows that are challenging their audiences to engage even more with the material.

Navel-gazing hasn’t always been so popular, though, mainly because of its perception as stuffy or difficult to understand. Clemson University’s Todd May, who consults for “The Good Place,
