Season 2 looks to continue that trend by taking on Misery, King's 1987 psychological horror novel that centered on nurse Annie Wilkes and her deadly obsession with romance novelist, Paul Sheldon. Kathy Bates earned an Oscar for her performance as Wilkes in Rob Reiner's 1990 feature adaptation of the story, but now Emmy-nominee Lizzy Caplan gets a shot at the role. It’s Super Weird That ‘Captain Marvel’ Doesn’t Have Anything to Do With ‘Avengers: Endgame’

It’s Super Weird That ‘Captain Marvel’ Doesn’t Have Anything to Do With ‘Avengers: Endgame’
(This article contains a bunch of spoilers for “Captain Marvel.”)

It’s been quite a wild past year or so for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the completely mad cliffhanger at the end of “Avengers: Infinity War” and continuing last summer with “Ant-Man and the Wasp”– which served as a light and amusing diversion before concluding on a note that indicates Ant-Man will be very important to next month’s “Endgame.” And then we got a long, painful nine-month wait for “Captain Marvel.” We’re dying to see how this story continues, and we figured “Captain Marvel,” naturally, would be a part of it.

So last summer, we here at TheWrap wrote a bunch of speculative pieces in response to that insane “Avengers: Infinity War” cliffhanger. The most popular of those — and by far the longest at 2200 words — was about how “Captain Marvel,” hitting theaters less than two months before the then-unnamed “Avengers: Endgame,

We’re Rapidly Approaching the Trump/@Dril Singularity

President Trump had Isis on the brain Friday morning, tweeting that the terrorist organization “uses the Internet better than almost anyone.” He made sure to clarify he did not mean to praise Isis. Though the group is trying “to show a glimmer of vicious hope” (?), the president wrote, they are actually “losers and barely breathing.”

….There is nothing to admire about them, they will always try to show a glimmer of vicious hope, but they are losers and barely breathing. Think about that before you destroy your lives and the lives of your family!

Trump’s Yes Men in Congress: Timeline

At a rally in Ohio this week, President Donald Trump went after a familiar target: the late Senator John McCain. “I have to be honest, I never liked him much,” the president told his crowd at the General Dynamics plant in Lima. “Probably never will.” (Trump seemed particularly galled that he never got a “thank you” for giving McCain “the kind of funeral that he wanted.”)

Baffling as the attack might seem to someone who wasn’t conditioned to years of Trump’s rambling, extemporaneous grievance-airings, the attack barely registered in Washington.

France’s Film Production Levels Remained High in 2018, But Local Investment Plummeted

While the volume of production in France remained high with 300 films made in 2018, investment in local films dropped by 15.2% to €1.12 billion ($1.26 billion), hit by the sharp decline in financing from traditional distribution deals and TV channels.

Among the 300 films produced last year, 237 were French-majority films and 63 French-minority movies. Local investment in French movies reached a 10-year record low of €890.52 million; and foreign investment in French films was also down to €198 million (compared with €240 million in 2017). It’s the second lowest foreign investment level within the last decade.

Traditional distribution deals — for theatrical, home entertainment and international sales — fell 30.3% to €144.40 million across 238 films in 2018. Taking into account only the films which were not fully backed by a vertically-integrated company, 173 movies received €51.28 million in minimum guarantees from international sales companies, but 43% of that amount was given to 11 films. When it comes to distribution, the concentration of investment is also high. Out of 110 productions,

Rap Radio Is Playing More Women, But Streaming Playlists Lag Behind

If the future is female, then streaming services are wildly behind the times — the big winners on these platforms are overwhelmingly men. In 2018, for example, just three of the Top 25 most-streamed songs were helmed by women, according to data from BuzzAngle, which tracks music consumption. The same held true for albums.

That means streaming services don’t have much to offer female rappers right now. Two weeks ago, just two of the 50 songs on Spotify’s popular RapCaviar playlist incorporated women: Both involved Cardi B. Apple Music’s comparable playlist,
