Chevy Pulls ‘Most Reliable’ TV Ads After Honda Questions Its Accuracy

  • The Wrap
Chevrolet has removed a TV commercial that says the automaker is “more reliable” than its competitors after Honda challenged the accuracy of the Detroit company’s ad.

“Chevrolet stands by the reliability claim and the ad remains in the brand’s toolbox but we have decided to take it out of the regular rotation at this time to launch new Silverado creative,” Chevrolet spokeswoman Afaf Farah said in a statement sent to TheWrap. “We have not altered our marketing campaign because of any concerns with the accuracy of our ad content.”

The 60-second spot, which began airing this month, made the case that buyers made the wrong car choice based on data from a survey about reliability. The ad shows Honda, Toyota and Ford owners expressing their shock and disappointment as covers of vehicles are removed to reveal that theirs were not the top choice.

Box Office: ‘Shoplifters’ Hits $2 Million to Become One of 2018’s Highest-Grossing Foreign Films
Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Shoplifters” has become an unexpected box office success.

The Japanese drama about a petty thief who adopts a young girl has earned critical raves and picked up the Palme d’Or at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. That translated into commercial success for Magnolia, the indie distributor that’s been overseeing the film’s rollout. “Shoplifters” passed the $2 million mark on Thursday, making it one of the highest-grossing foreign language releases of 2018. “Fantastic Woman” also passed $2 million at the box office, though it had a limited release in 2017 in order to qualify for Oscars. Netflix’s “Roma” has reportedly done strong business in its limited theatrical run, but the streaming service does not disclose grosses, so it’s impossible to know how much money it has generated.

“We knew from festival screenings that audiences really loved the movie, so we just trusted that if we made

‘Making a Murderer’ Attorney Kathleen Zellner Challenges Andrew Colborn to Reenact Bookcase Theory From Trial
Kathleen Zellner, the attorney for “Making a Murderer” subject Steven Avery, is challenging Sgt. Andrew Colborn to re-create a theory he presented during trial to convict Avery of the murder of Teresa Halbach.

“Sgt. Colborn Challenge: We invite you to our law offices to reenact the bookcase story you told the jury,” Zellner tweeted Thursday. “We have identical key & bookcase. Show us how your trial testimony is true and we will drop claim that it is not. 10 day offer.”

In the first season of “Making a Murderer,” Halbach’s Rav4 car key was found laying near a bookcase in Avery’s home after Colborn moved the bookcase, long after the initial police search took place where no key was found. At trial, Colborn said during the second search, the key must have fallen from the bookcase where Avery had hidden it after he allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered the photographer.
