Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield in Talks to Star in Film About Black Panther Party Leader
Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield are in negotiations to star in the historical drama “Jesus Was My Homeboy” about Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton.

The project is set up at Warner Bros. with “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler producing along with Charles King through his Marco production company. Executive producers are Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and Macros’ Kim Roth and Poppy Hanks.

Shaka King will direct and produce from a script he wrote with Will Berson, which will focus on the death of Hampton, who was killed in 1969 while sleeping in his apartment during a raid conducted by a state tactical unit in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His death was ruled as a justifiable homicide by the inquest. A civil lawsuit resulted in a settlement of $1.85 million in 1982.

Emma Thompson Exits Skydance Animation Movie ‘Luck’ Over John Lasseter Hire
Emma Thompson has dropped out of the voice cast of Skydance Animation’s upcoming film “Luck,” a spokesperson for the actress told Variety.

The beloved British star did some recording for the project, but dropped out in January, following John Lasseter’s hire to the top animation job at David Ellison’s studio, an insider close to the film added.

Skydance Animation had no comment. Thompson had no comment beyond confirming her departure from the movie.

Lasseter’s hire made waves at the beginning of the year, as the former Disney-Pixar kingpin left his animation studio in a cloud of misconduct accusations before spending a year away from the business entirely.

At the time, Skydance CEO Ellison sent a lengthy internal memo to staff saying he’d conducted an independent investigation into the Lasseter accusations and was confident of his innocence. The studio also held a series of town hall meetings,

"Man in the High Castle" to End After Season 4

Amazon’s alternate-history drama “Man in the High Castle” will end after its upcoming fourth season.

The final season was confirmed in an teaser, which you can watch above. It will stream this fall on Amazon Prime.

The series, based on Philip K. Dick’s book of the same, depicts a world where the Allied Powers lost World War II and Nazi Germany was able to spread its influence across the globe. In the series, the United States has been dissolved and split between German and Japanese control, with those two countries essentially taking the place of the Us and Soviet Union during the decades-long Cold War.

Aaron Sorkin Says He Has ‘No Plans’ to Revive
ACN is not coming back on the air, according to Aaron Sorkin.

The creator of HBO’s cable news drama “The Newsroom” said on Monday night that he has “no plans” to revive the series, a week after one of the show’s cast members, Olivia Munn, said she’s had conversations about bringing the series back. But Sorkin seemingly canceled those rumors on Monday’s “Late Late Show.”

“I wish the show was on the air now. I’d love to be writing it now. But there are other things coming up. I have no plans to return to any of that,” Sorkin told host James Corden.

Last week, Munn spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of a “Newsroom” revival.

“Tom Sadoski and myself, we’ve actually been having conversations with Sorkin about that,” she told Et.

As the Chicago police investigation into what really happened to Jussie Smollett in the alleged assault last month intensifies its focus on the Empire actor, the Fox drama is cutting the performer out of the action.

Deadline has confirmed with well placed sources that Smollett’s scenes in episodes of the Lee Daniels and Danny Strong co-created series are being slashed for production on Empire this week.

While the show is back at work today in the Windy City after the long weekend, Smollett will be a rare presence on the set of the Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard led show.

The actor has also had an absent presence in Chicago PD request for another interview with him. As Smollett himself has become the subject of deeper inquiry into the supposed assault that occurred in the early hours of January 29, detectives want to know more about the actor’s

"Arrested Development" Season 5’s Second Half Gets Premiere Date at Netflix

Well, we just blue ourselves ’cause Netflix has finally set the premiere date for the backhalf of Season 5 of “Arrested Development.”

The Bluth family will return to the streaming service with the final eight episodes of the Mitch Hurwitz-created comedy’s fifth season on March 15, TheWrap has learned.

That’s quite a while after the first part of Season 5 debuted last May — but not nearly as long as fans waited between Seasons 4 and 5 and doesn’t come close to touching the amount of time fans twiddled their thumbs before for the show was revived with a fourth season on Netflix after ending its three-season run on Fox.

Entertainment Weekly first reported the news.

“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” Paltrow, 46, told Variety in this week’s cover story. “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. He directed a number of commercials and short films for the fashion brand including The Return in 2013 with Rupert Everett, Once and Forever with Kristen Stewart in 2015 and Reincarnation with Cara Delevingne and Pharrell Williams in 2014.

Costume Designers Guild Gives Top Prizes to ‘The Favourite,’ ‘Black Panther’
The Favourite,” “Black Panther” and “Crazy Rich Asians” have been named the best-dressed films of 2018 by the Costume Designers Guild, which handed out its 21st Costume Designers Guild Awards on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

The Favourite” won in the Excellence in Period Film category, “Black Panther” in the Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film category and “Crazy Rich Asians” in the Excellence in Contemporary Film category.

Of this year’s Cdg winners, “The Favourite” and “Black Panther” are nominated for Oscars in the Best Costume Design category. “Crazy Rich Asians” is not.

In its previous 20 years, one of the Cdg winners went on to win the costume-design Oscar nine times. Five of those winners came from the period-film category, two from the sci-fi/fantasy category and two from the now-defunct period/fantasy category.

The First ‘Captain Marvel’ Reactions Are in: ‘Well, Thanos Is F—ed’

Hold on to your plumey helmets: Disney held the first public screenings for “Captain Marvel” Tuesday night, and just minutes after it ended, the joyous online reactions began.

Much praise was given to star Brie Larson and the film’s portrayal of Carol Danvers, the first female hero to lead a Marvel Studios film. But co-star Ben Mendelsohn was celebrated as the film’s “surprise Mvp.” Also, pretty everyone agreed that a cat named Goose is wonderful.

“#CaptainMarvel doesn’t owe us anything, but holy wow does it deliver,” said Et Now’s Meredith B. Kile.

“Carol’s hero moment was very cathartic/true to the female experience,” said Den of Geek’s Kayti Burt.

Talent Agents, WGA Achieve Progress in Second Round of Talks

Hollywood talent agents and the Writers Guild of America have achieved some progress at their second negotiating session over agency regulations, according to sources close to the talks.

The two sides met Tuesday, two weeks after their first meeting resulted in both sides criticizing each other, followed by the WGA holding a trio of spirited membership meetings on the issue. Neither side issued a statement after Tuesday’s talks but sources told Variety that the session had dealt with substantive issues. No date has been set yet for a third session, however.

The meeting took place seven weeks before the current franchise agreement expires. During the past year, the WGA has been pressuring Hollywood’s agencies to revamp the rules for agents due to affiliates of Hollywood’s two largest agencies — Wme and CAA — moving aggressively into production, creating the potential for conflicts of interest that arise when the same

Festival Honors

The Sun Valley Film Festival has selected Idaho native and three-time Emmy winner Aaron Paul as the winner of its Pioneer Award, presented by Variety for his work in television and film on March 15.

He will attend the world premiere screening of Christopher Cantwell’s “The Parts You Lose,” in which Paul stars and also serves as a producer, and will participate in a moderated discussion about his career.

Alex Ross Perry will receive the Rising Star Award for Directing on March 16, and attend a screening of his latest film “Her Smell,” which stars Elisabeth Moss, and Fisher Stevens will receive the Snow Angel Award on March 16 and screen his film “Tigerland.” Meg Ryan will receive the festival’s Vision Award.
