Anne Hathaway to Star in Robert Zemeckis’ ‘The Witches’ (Exclusive)
Anne Hathaway has closed a deal to star as the Grand High Witch in Robert Zemeckis and Warner Bros.’ “The Witches” adaptation.

Variety first reported that Hathaway was holding the offer for both that and “Sesame Street,” and at the time, scheduling for both films were holding up dealmaking. With those issues settled, Hathaway is now set to star in the role originally portrayed by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 classic.

Based on the 1973 novel, the film follows a 7-year-old boy who has a run in with real-life witches. Warner Bros. had previously adapted the book in 1990 with Huston playing one of the title characters, but sources close to the project say Zemeckis’ version will be more rooted in the original source material, while the Huston pic was a loose adaptation.

Zemeckis will also pen the script as well as produce with his partner Jack Rapke through their banner ImageMovers, along

Jason Reitman to Direct Secret ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie
Sony Pictures is getting the wheels in motion for the next installment in the “Ghostbusters” franchise, and it knows who it’s going to call to direct: Jason Reitman.

Sources tell Variety that Reitman, whose father, Ivan, directed the first two “Ghostbusters” movies, will direct the latest pic in the famous franchise.

Reitman has also co-written a screenplay with Gil Kenan and plans to shoot the film this summer, with Sony planning to release the latest sequel in summer 2020. Insiders say this film will be a continuation of the 1984 sequel and will not be connected to the 2016 film. Sources couldn’t say if that means that the original cast members will be back, as exact story details are still being kept under wraps.

Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Pictures is producing and insiders close to Ivan say he believes this film is a passing of the torch.

Here’s How ‘Supernatural’ Will Resurrect Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s John Winchester for 300th Episode
Ok, “Supernatural” fam. You knew Jeffrey Dean Morgan was coming back as John Winchester for the show’s 300th episode next month — and now we can tell you how he’s coming back. You know, cause he’s been dead since Season 2 of the Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles-led drama — which is now in its fourteenth season.

“Our guys are put in a position where they essentially can have a wish granted,” showrunner Andrew Dabb told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Wednesday. “They’re actually expecting something else, but [John’s return] comes from a place of want by Dean. The need for closure is really what brings John back into their lives.”

Fans have been hoping against hope the “The Walking Dead” star would return to the show for years now, and Morgan finally granted their wish in honor of the milestone episode, titled “Lebanon” — and to give Sam (Padalecki

Lil Peep ’16 Lines’ Video Is a Portrait of a Lonely Star

Lil Peep ’16 Lines’ Video Is a Portrait of a Lonely Star
Simple, monotonous and haunting Lil Peep’s “16 Lines” feels like it lasts for an eternity. The song is one of the dourest on the posthumous Come On Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2, and its video captures a specific feeling of loneliness and dejection that’s at the heart of Peep’s music.

Peep is the sole figure in the Giggy-directed visual, smoking on a couch and singing to himself as he rides in the back of a van. “16 lines of blow and I’m fine/Break my bones, but

The Oscars Probably Won’t Have a Host, and Here’s Why They Don’t Need One

The Oscars Probably Won’t Have a Host, and Here’s Why They Don’t Need One
More than a month after choosing and then losing Kevin Hart as the host of the 91st Academy Awards, the Academy and the Oscar show producers are moving ahead with plans for an Oscars without a traditional host.

But their plans are also informed by one glaring fact: Even if this year’s Oscars had a host, there won’t be time on the show for that host to do very much.

That’s why the prospect of a hostless Oscars isn’t as daunting to the Academy, producer Donna Gigliotti and co-producer Glenn Weiss as it might have seemed five or 10 years ago — because what’s the point of booking a marquee host if that person won’t be able to make an impact?

TV Review: HBO’s ‘Brexit’

The announcement of the film “Brexit” — which aired in the U.K. on Channel 4 before its HBO bow on Jan. 19 — engendered serious criticism from the British, and understandably so. The film, which looks at recent history in the manner HBO productions like “Game Change” and “Recount” had done, takes on a story whose very fundamentals are still in doubt. For those who believe the Brexit vote, a plebiscite that resulted in the U.K.’s protracted quitting of the European Union, turned out the way it did because of nefarious or illegal tactics, “Brexit” covers material that’s too painful,
