Box Office: 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' Heads for $250 Million Global Launch

Box Office: 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' Heads for $250 Million Global Launch
Put your wands up, muggles. The upcoming chapter in the Harry Potter universe looks to enchant moviegoers and dominate the global box office.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is expected to earn $65 million from over 3,300 domestic locations, though industry estimates show that number could be closer to $75 million. The higher part of that range would be in line with the opening of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first entry in the Harry Potter spinoff series. That film debuted with $74 million on the same weekend two years ago and went on to generate $234 million in North America and $580 million overseas. The second film carries a slightly bigger budget of $200 million, while the first outing cost $175 million.

Warner Bros., the studio behind the magical movies, expects to see a similar boost from the international box office. The sequel could make as much as $250 million this weekend when including foreign markets, where it will launch day and date in nearly 48 territories.

Hulu to Develop Shows Based on George R.R. Martin Book Series ‘Wild Cards’

Hulu to Develop Shows Based on George R.R. Martin Book Series ‘Wild Cards’
Hulu is developing multiple shows based on the “Wild Cards” book series, which is edited by “Game of Thrones” scribe George R.R. Martin.

Variety has learned from sources that the streamer is set to open a writers room for two shows set in the “Wild Cards” universe. Universal Cable Productions will produce along with Hulu, with Andrew Miller set to write and executive produce both projects. Miller, who is currently under an overall deal at UCP, recently helmed the “Tremors” pilot at Syfy that saw the return of the original film’s star Kevin Bacon.

Set in the present, the “Wild Cards” books explore the aftermath of an alien virus, released over Manhattan in 1946 that killed 90% of those it infected. In the survivors, DNA was altered, creating grotesque physical deformities, except for a tiny percentage who develop super human powers instead.

"Game Of Thrones:" HBO Confirms April Premiere For Season 8

  • Deadline
It’s official. The anticipated eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" will launch in April. HBO released a promotional video Tuesday morning with no specific date, but official word that the series will return for its final go-round in April 2019. The retrospective video features recycled footage with the most iconic scenes from the series so far.

An April premiere is not a big surprise, since Season 1-Season 6 launched in April or late March; Season 7 premiered in July 2017. But until today, the only official time frame for the debut came from HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who said the series would return in the first half of 2019. Star Maisie Williams was more specific, saying in an interview with the UK’s Metro in January that the series was eyeing an April 2019 premiere.

HBO previously revealed that the final episode was shot over 55 nights in three locations.

Tucker Carlson Praises Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Criticizing Amazon HQ2 Incentives
Tucker Carlson would probably be the first to tell you that he has very little in common with New York’s newly-elected Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but on his Tuesday evening broadcast, the Fox News anchor praised the Democratic Socialist for her criticism New York City’s decision to offer Amazon more than billion dollars in corporate subsidies.

“I hate to admit it but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a very good point,” said Carlson after reading a tweet from her slamming the tax breaks.

On Tuesday, the retail giant announced they would construct a two satellite corporate headquarters in Queens, New York, and Northern Virginia — both municipalities paid the company dearly in tax giveaways for the honor.

Migos ‘Carpool Karaoke': James Corden Apologizes to Rap Group for Personally Ruining the Dab (Video)
Rap group Migos helped James Corden get to work in the latest installment of “Carpool Karaoke,” during which the CBS host manned up and apologized to them.

The “Late Late Show” driver admitted to hip-hop trio Quavo, Offset and Takeoff that it was him who personally ruined the dab, a swag-dance move the trio created. And then they all sang Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” together, as you do in such situations.

That 1987 classic wasn’t the only corny (but awesome) tune they all did together in the popular and recurring (late) late-night segment. Stick around for a “Sweet Caroline” remix later in Range Rover.

Film Review: ‘Instant Family’

Film Review: ‘Instant Family’
Commercial Hollywood comedies about the glory and absurdity of modern family life tend to come in two flavors: earnest and wack job. If Will Ferrell had starred in “Instant Family,” a comedy about an attractive, childless, edging-into-middle-age couple who take in a brood of foster kids who prove to be more trouble than they look, the movie would have been an over-the-top synthetic farce crammed with masochistic dad jokes; even the hugs would have been yocks. But “Instant Family,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne as a happily married but vaguely saddened white-bread couple (they barely have a clue as to how much they need children!), who take a trio of Hispanic-American siblings under their untested wings, isn’t a zany obnoxious head conk of a movie.

It was directed, as well as co-written, by Sean Anders, who made “Daddy’s Home” and “Daddy’s Home 2” (which were that sort

‘Instant Family’ Film Review: Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg Weather the Rocky Adoption Process

‘Instant Family’ Film Review: Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg Weather the Rocky Adoption Process
Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne adopt three kids at once in “Instant Family,” a film that looks, sounds, and sometimes acts like a dumb comedy. But stick with it, and you’ll discover that Sean Anders’ latest is an earnest, moving family drama that just happens to be kinda funny.

Anders, who previously directed mediocre-to-painful comedies like the “Daddy’s Home” films and “That’s My Boy,” starts “Instant Family” off his usual way, with adults who behave like overgrown children and a comedy flashback in which Wahlberg accidentally kills another kid’s father. The stage is set, and it’s tempting to give up and go home now, before the real show begins.

But “Instant Family” cleverly uses all that early, immature humor as a contrast, because once Pete (Wahlberg) and Ellie (Byrne) decide to adopt three kids, they’ve set themselves on a path to real maturity. Anders
