Matthew McConaughey Being Eyed To Star In Park Chan-Wook’s Ultra-Violent Western From ‘Bone Tomahawk’ Writer
The pairing of Park Chan-wook and Matthew McConaughey sounds too weird, but at the same time incredible, to pass up, right? One is the acclaimed director from South Korea, who has amazed fans with works like “Oldboy,” “The Handmaiden,” and most recently, his TV series “The Little Drummer Girl.” And the other is an Oscar-winning actor that continues to take interesting roles, albeit with his Southern charm positioned front and center.

‘The Irishman’ Not Ready for Cannes; Netflix Won’t Screen at the Festival This Year
A year after Netflix and the Cannes Film Festival got into very heated public battle, the streaming service will not be participating once again. Netflix made its Cannes debut in 2017 with the films Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) playing in competition, but French theater owners were none too pleased about the decision, as France has a very strict policy when it comes to streaming films playing in theaters. According to French law, a film must wait 36 months before it can be available on a streaming service if it first wants to play in French theaters, …

'Captain Marvel' Tops $760 Million Worldwide as Newcomers Overperform
For a second weekend in a row Disney and Marvel's Captain Marvel topped the weekend box office as it has now posted over $760 million worldwide in just twelve days in global release. Overall, the weekend ended up topping the same weekend last year for a second straight week as both Wonder Park and Five Feet Apart outperformed expectations with their opening weekend performance. At the same time Lionsgate's release of Pantelion's No Manches Frida 2 delivered a top ten finish from just 472 theaters, topping Focus's disappointing release of Captive State, which struggled in its debut in over 2,500 locations. Disney's Captain Marvel topped the weekend box office for a second weekend in a row, delivering an estimated $69.3 million sophomore frame, dipping -54.8% and outperforming the -56% average second weekend dip for a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This pushes the film's domestic cume over $266 million after just ten days in domestic release.

SXSW Film Review: ‘Pet Sematary’

SXSW Film Review: ‘Pet Sematary’
In Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary,” the big-city Creed family moves to rural Maine, inadvertently buying a plot of land that includes an ancient Indian burial ground. If you inter a beloved feline correctly in the creepy pet cemetery behind their house, it’s liable to come back … different. Same goes for cadavers of the non-cat variety — including humans hit by passing traffic. So goes the “Be careful what you wish for” premise of what many consider to be the horror writer’s scariest novel.

Of the 70-odd theatrical adaptations of the King’s oeuvre to date, maybe a dozen actually deliver. Amid that hit-and-miss filmography, the 1989 reanimated-animals chiller ranks among the most effective big-screen translations of the prolific author’s work. That earlier nightmare-inducing version of “Pet Sematary” isn’t so much remade as resurrected in co-directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer’s 30-years-later take, a mostly faithful cover

Denis Villenueve’s ‘Dune,’ Starring Timothée Chalamet, Has Officially Begun Filming As Full Cast Is Now Confirmed
After all the talk and casting rumors, it’s official – production on “Dune” has officially begun!

Normally, hearing that another film was being made based on the Frank Herbert classic sci-fi novel would be cause for alarm. David Lynch gave the challenge a valiant effort, which is very Lynch-ian take on “Dune” back in 1984. Before that, filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky tried his damndest and got close to adapting the novel, and instead became the basis for a great documentary titled “Jodorowsky’s Dune.” However, this time, it just feels like all the stars are aligning and the best chance “Dune” fans will ever have at a faithful, and incredible, film based on the novel series is coming thanks to filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and his truly incredible cast.

Is Danai Gurira on the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Poster Because Okoye Is the New Black Panther?

Is Danai Gurira on the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Poster Because Okoye Is the New Black Panther?
There was an interesting real world subplot that developed last week when the “Avengers: Endgame” trailer dropped. Marvel Studios also gave us a poster for the film, and every actor whose character was featured got their name listed at the top, save one: Danai Gurira, who plays the Wakandan warrior Okoye.

This bit of info understandably irked some folks — Okoye is a great character and Gurira is awesome in the role. So it made perfect sense to question why her name was left off the top of the poster if she was important enough to be included on the thing in the first place.

Disney quickly put out an updated version of the post with Gurira’s name on it, and the furor died down as everyone resumed parsing every frame of the “Endgame” trailer for clues to how this whole “Avengers” story is going to end. But I say

TV Review: NBC’s ‘The Village’

Even by the standards of network television, NBC’s “The Village” wears its inspiration boldly and openly: It’s “This Is Us,” except set among the disparate residents of an apartment building rather than the members of a family. “The Village” leans, hard, into the “This Is Us” formula of trauma-as-drama, deriving its tone from its characters perpetually making their way through the worst days of their lives and building moments of emotional catharsis and connection practically before every ad break.

Which is fine, as far as it goes — the medium runs on repetition, with slight alteration, and “This Is Us,

‘Dumbo’ Child Stars Call Out Colin Farrell for Filling Up ‘Swear Jar’ on Set (Video)

‘Dumbo’ Child Stars Call Out Colin Farrell for Filling Up ‘Swear Jar’ on Set (Video)
We’re sure the set of “Dumbo” was a delightful experience and that the finished film will be more than appropriate for young audiences, but star Colin Farrell admits he had a hand in filling up a swear jar on set. And his young co-stars were quick to name names of others who have just as bad of a potty mouth.

While guesting on “The Talk,” Sharon Osbourne said Farrell has been known for his “colorful language,” although Farrell joked that she’s one to talk.

“Indeed, how did you get this job,” the Irish actor said. “There must be somebody backstage with carpal tunnel from hitting the button so much.”

How ‘Leaving Neverland’ Has – and Hasn’t – Changed Michael Jackson’s Legacy

HBO’s two-part documentary, Leaving Neverland, had all the makings of a #MeToo bombshell: Over four hours, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, two former child performers, describe, in often excruciating detail, the way Michael Jackson allegedly groomed and sexually abused them while they were children. The ratings were high; the press surrounding the film was plentiful; Oprah co-signed the documentary by interviewing Safechuck and Robson; and the Jackson Estate engaged in a full–throated counter–offensive, denying the allegations, questioning Safechuck and Robson’s credibility and claiming the film “violates
