Anne Hathaway to Star in Robert Zemeckis’ ‘The Witches’ (Exclusive)
Anne Hathaway has closed a deal to star as the Grand High Witch in Robert Zemeckis and Warner Bros.’ “The Witches” adaptation.

Variety first reported that Hathaway was holding the offer for both that and “Sesame Street,” and at the time, scheduling for both films were holding up dealmaking. With those issues settled, Hathaway is now set to star in the role originally portrayed by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 classic.

Based on the 1973 novel, the film follows a 7-year-old boy who has a run in with real-life witches. Warner Bros. had previously adapted the book in 1990 with Huston playing one of the title characters, but sources close to the project say Zemeckis’ version will be more rooted in the original source material, while the Huston pic was a loose adaptation.

Zemeckis will also pen the script as well as produce with his partner Jack Rapke through their banner ImageMovers, along

How a Costume Designer Brightened M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Glass’

How a Costume Designer Brightened M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Glass’
Paco Delgado’s costumes are as varied as his films. Contrast the drama “The Danish Girl,” the futuristic fantasy “A Wrinkle in Time” and the period musical “Les Misérables.” Now he’s in comic-book territory with M. Night Shyamalan’s newest superhero/supervillain thriller, “Glass,” which Universal releases Jan. 17.

The costume designer’s career began in Barcelona and London, and he attributes his eclectic design range to projects he worked on in those markets. “There were many opportunities [back then]. You’d do a contemporary film, then a comedy, then a drama,” he tells Variety on a call from London, where he’s working on an adaptation of T.S. Eliot’s “Cats,” his latest venture with Tom Hooper

At first, though, Delgado wasn’t enamored of the moving picture medium. He studied theater design at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and then at Motley Theatre Design in London and began working on fringe shows.

It’s Not Just Steve King

Public servants are supposed to serve every one of their constituents faithfully. Iowa’s 4th Congressional District is nearly monochromatic, but there are some voters of color living there. They should have a representative in Congress who isn’t a white supremacist. Frankly, so should the white residents.

It is hardly radical to suggest that exhibitions of bigotry — such as those of Rep. Steve King, of that 4th District in Iowa — should be a firable offense throughout all levels of government. It is high atop President Trump’s own list of impeachable offenses.
