A Very Happy ‘Halloween’: Thursday Night Previews At $7.7M
Friday AM Update after Thursday night Exclusive: Universal is calling Miramax/Blumhouse’s Halloween at $7.7M in Thursday night previews which began at 7PM, at 3,200 venues, still a fantastic result for a horror pic even though our estimates overshot. Last night’s take bests The Nun‘s $5.4M preview and it’s just under the $8M of Paranormal Activity 3‘s midnight previews. Given the funky, front-loaded nature of horror movies –they don’t exactly leg out like superhero ones– makes this a tricky one to peg in regards to how high it will go. Already we were hearing that advance ticket sales today are enormous, and that’s after last night’s show. We heard there were presales in certain multiplexes that are beating It‘s sales. Already, Fandango reported that Halloween is the best horror pre-seller of the year, well ahead of The Nun.

Should Halloween follow a

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" Season 10 Finally Begins Production

Well this is prettay, prettay, prettay good news: Filming has finally begun on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" Season 10.

HBO confirmed to TheWrap production started Friday, 10 months after the premium cable network announced the Larry David-led series had been renewed. No plot details or premiere date was given for the return of the "Seinfeld" co-creator’s neuroses-laced program.

David’s comedy was renewed for a tenth season by HBO last December, with production set to begin in spring 2018 and a yet-to-be-determined debut date yet given. Obviously, something stalled filming for a bit, but hopefully that doesn’t mean you’ll be waiting six years for another season of "Curb" again.

'Halloween' Looks to Scare Up $70M Opening, Helping October 2018 Maintain a Record Pace

'Halloween' Looks to Scare Up $70M Opening, Helping October 2018 Maintain a Record Pace
As of yesterday, October is pacing a massive +42.3% ahead of October 2017. In fact, October 2018 is narrowly outpacing October 2014, the largest October on record, and this weekend should help increase that lead. Universal and Blumhouse's Halloween is poised to deliver what will now be the second largest October opening ever behind Venom, which broke the record only a couple weeks ago. The weekend also sees the nationwide expansion of Fox's The Hate U Give, which is expected to deliver in the mid-to-high single digit millions, but could break out a bit higher after a strong showing in limited release. October 2018 is going big when it comes to new releases and after this weekend the month will feature three of the top ten October releases of all-time after Venom's chart-topping, $80.2 million debut and A Star is Born's $42.9 million opening on the same weekend. Added to the list will be this

‘Dance Til Dawn’ at 30: The Team Reflects on ‘Unusual Casting Process,’ #MeToo Relevance and DJ Dick

The spring and summer of 1988 were consumed with a writers’ strike within the film and television industry, but one project that launched in the fall came out of it unscathed: “Dance ‘Til Dawn,” an original television movie about Hoover High’s senior prom first aired on NBC Oct. 23, 1988. The movie was a who’s who of 1980s television — from Kelsey Grammer and Alan Thicke, to Christina Applegate, Tempestt Bledsoe and Tracey Gold — and its multi-generational casting allowed it to be an early pioneer of content aimed at a co-viewing audience. It was also a love letter to Los Angeles, utilizing

Jane Fonda Wows Lumière Festival, Embraces Militancy, Recalls 1968 Paris
Lyon, France — Jane Fonda wowed a packed house at Lyon’s majestic Théâtre des Célestins on Friday, delivering a masterclass at the Lumière Film Festival, in French no less, that was in turns humorous, emotional and downright militant, at one point even expressing gratitude to Donald Trump for making activism stronger than it has ever been.

Speaking with Institut Lumiere director and Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux, a relaxed Fonda joked with the crowd and with her interpreter, who was left with little to do as she spoke about her love of France, her favorite directors, her campaign of protest agains the U.S. war in Vietnam and the impact that had on her career, and her call for activism not only against the current U.S. regime but also against rightwing, patriarchal movements across Europe and other parts of the world.

Fonda said her early activism ultimately made her a better actress.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Release ‘I’ll Never Love Again’ Music Video
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper have released the official music video for “I’ll Never Love Again,” the heartbreaking final track on the “A Star is Born” soundtrack.

Gaga teased the video on her Twitter Friday after it was released exclusively on Apple Music.

Gaga, Cooper, Interscope Records and Warner Bros. developed a campaign for the soundtrack that involved being deliberately stingy about giving audiences too much of the music (or its accompanying imagery) too soon. They released the soundtrack album day-and-date with the film, and only issued one audio track, “Shallow,” a week prior to the movie’s release. But now that large swaths of America have seen the film, the stars and producers aren’t being so protective of the songs as spoilers.

Flashback: See Neil Young and Pearl Jam Rock the Free World in 1993
Pearl Jam were cresting when they made an appearance on the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards. Not only did they win Video of the Year for “Jeremy,” trouncing video warhorses like Aerosmith, Peter Gabriel and R.E.M., but they also performed on the show, giving the network footage to air when the band moved away from making music videos. The peak of the evening was when Neil Young joined them onstage for a lively rendition of his 1989 hit “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Young just sauntered onstage in jeans, T-shirt

Editors’ Pick: Elle King, Shake the Spirit

“Whereas fellow retro-loving diva Lana Del Rey played the coy, gothy California dreamer, King came on like a butt-kicking rocker-heroine wailing through her pain,” writes Christopher R. King spent the years since her initial success dealing with the fallout of a short, secret, troubled marriage, a subsequent divorce, substance abuse and rehab. You can hear her map out her story, lyrically, as her impressive second album progresses. At the start of the LP, she

15 Hollywood Actors Who Had Epic Fails as Music Stars (Photos)

15 Hollywood Actors Who Had Epic Fails as Music Stars (Photos)
There are a few (lots of) Hollywood actors that tried venturing out into the musical world. Some (very few) made it work and others… Well, here’s a list of 15 that should’ve just not.

Lindsay Lohan

Lohan debuted her first album “Speak” in 2004 and it actually did pretty well commercially. Her music video for “Rumors” even got nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.

She wasn’t horrible, but she just wasn’t pop star good.

Eddie Murphy

Believe it or not, Eddie Murphy had a low-key music career. You probably know him best from his single “I’m a Believer” off Shrek… and that’s probably it.

He just released a reggae single with Snoop Dogg in 2o13, but like most of his stuff no one’s heard it.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has been into music for a very long time, but it wasn’t until 2015 where
