'Halloween' Looks to Scare Up $70M Opening, Helping October 2018 Maintain a Record Pace

'Halloween' Looks to Scare Up $70M Opening, Helping October 2018 Maintain a Record Pace
As of yesterday, October is pacing a massive +42.3% ahead of October 2017. In fact, October 2018 is narrowly outpacing October 2014, the largest October on record, and this weekend should help increase that lead. Universal and Blumhouse's Halloween is poised to deliver what will now be the second largest October opening ever behind Venom, which broke the record only a couple weeks ago. The weekend also sees the nationwide expansion of Fox's The Hate U Give, which is expected to deliver in the mid-to-high single digit millions, but could break out a bit higher after a strong showing in limited release. October 2018 is going big when it comes to new releases and after this weekend the month will feature three of the top ten October releases of all-time after Venom's chart-topping, $80.2 million debut and A Star is Born's $42.9 million opening on the same weekend. Added to the list will be this

‘Manifest’ Gets Order For Three Additional Episodes From NBC

  • Deadline
‘Manifest’ Gets Order For Three Additional Episodes From NBC
NBC has picked up three episodes of breakout new drama Manifest, bringing the total freshman episode count to 16.

The size of the order, which is below full-season 22 episodes, is not surprising. Shorter-run seasons — between 13 and 18 episodes — have become the norm for heavily serialized broadcast dramas, including NBC’s This Is Us, Fox’s Empire and ABC’s How To Get Away with Murder.

So far this fall “Manifest” has averaged a 3.9 rating in adults 18-49 and 17.2 million viewers in L+7, making it television’s #1 new series in both measures. Counting all entertainment programs on broadcast and cable, “Manifest” ranks #4 in L+7 adult 18-49 averages behind only “This Is Us,” “The Walking Dead” and “The Big Bang Theory” and #2 in total viewers behind only “Big Bang.” Adding in alternate platform viewing raises the “Manifest” L+7 18-49 rating to a 5.1.

“Manifest” stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise,

James Corden Combines ‘Making a Murderer’ and ‘Halloween’ So You Don’t Have to Choose Today (Video)

  • The Wrap
Netflix’s “Making a Murderer” Season 2 and Blumhouse’s “Halloween” both came out Friday, so how does one choose which to watch? Well, James Corden just combined the two into one true-crime series/horror flick crossover, “Making a Halloween Murderer,” so maybe start with that.

In the Thursday “Late Late Show” sketch, Corden’s Michael Myers has been locked up four 40 years when he implores a group of documentarians to shed light on his appeal, and to seek out some of his buddies as character witnesses. Cut to: Jason Voorhees, who totally vouches for the guy.

“The only thing Mike ever killed is on the dance floor,” the “Friday the 13th” baddie says. “The guy can move.”

The Walt Disney Co. has officially laid claim to the top-level executives at Fox that the company wants to keep once it finalizes its $71.3 billion acquisition for the majority of the Murdoch family’s entertainment assets — but Fox film chief Stacey Snider won’t be making the move.

That puts Snider, a well-liked and respected executive who has had stints running Universal Pictures, DreamWorks and currently 20th Century Fox, in play at a time when Hollywood is craving experienced leadership.

“Literally I’d be outside the lot right now with a lobster bib on,” Redef CEO Jason Hirschhorn said at this month’s TheWrap-sponsored media and entertainment conference TheGrill.

Nuclear Bomb Movie in Development With ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Producer

Nuclear Bomb Movie in Development With ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Producer
Oscar-nominated “Hacksaw Ridge” producer David Permut has acquired the motion picture rights to Joel Dobson’s nuclear bomb thriller “The Goldsboro Broken Arrow.”

Dobson’s book follows the formerly classified events that took place in 1961 when four pilots ejected out of a B-52 aircraft carrying two thermonuclear bombs at 9,000 feet after the plane was struck multiple times by lightning and lost a wing. One pilot died, three others survived, and the two nuclear bombs fell at a velocity of 700 mph and crashed into Goldsboro, N.C.

The condition of the fail-safe mechanism on the bombs was unknown, and there was no guarantee that they could be deactivated. The destructive power of each bomb was large enough to create a 100% kill zone within a radius of eight miles. Twenty-two-year-old Lt. Jack ReVelle, a bomb disposal expert, was charged with the dangerous mission of deactivating the bombs.

Information about the event was

Pearl Jam’s ‘Vs.’: 10 Things You Didn’t Know
Calling Pearl Jam’s sophomore album “hotly anticipated” would have severely understated the case. In the two years since the release of Ten, their 1991 debut, the band had vaulted from obscurity to the forefront of the rock mainstream on the strength of visceral singles like “Alive,” “Jeremy” and “Even Flow,” and high-intensity live performances in which frontman Eddie Vedder often risked life and limb in his quest to win over audiences.

So when Vs., released on October 19th, 1993, set an industry record by selling more than 950,000 copies in its first
