Following his Oscar-winning performance in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” Sam Rockwell is in negotiations to reteam with Fox Searchlight and co-star with Scarlett Johansson in the World War II film “Jojo Rabbit,” sources confirm to Variety.

The project is Taika Waititi’s follow-up to “Thor: Ragnarok.” The story centers on Jojo, a young boy who longs to be part of the Hitler Youth and whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler. He discovers a Jewish girl living in his attic and, after initially trying to find ways to get rid of her, begins to see her as human.

Johansson is playing Jojo’s mother, a woman who is secretly working for the resistance. Waititi is playing the imaginary Hitler.

Rockwell will play a Nazi captain who runs a Hitler Youth camp.

Waititi penned the script and will produce alongside Carthew Neal and Chelsea Winstanley. Production is expected to start this spring.

The Academy on Monday announced the key dates for the 91st Oscars, which will be broadcast by ABC on Feb. 24, 2019.

The Academy Awards, which were held on the first Sunday of March this year so as not to conflict with the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in February, will move back to the traditional late February spot on the calendar next year.

The Academy's awards season will officially kick off Nov. 18, when it holds its annual Governors Awards.

Nominations voting will begin Monday, Jan. 7, and close a week later on Monday, Jan. 14.

Philip D’Antoni, who produced Oscar-winning films like “The French Connection” and “Bullitt,” died at age 89 on April 15. The producer died at his home in New York.

D’Antoni was best known for the 1971 crime drama “The French Connection,” which won three Golden Globes and five Oscars, including best picture. Gene Hackman won for best actor and William Friedkin for best director and the film also won best adapted screenplay and best film editing. Also on the late producer’s resume is the Steve McQueen action flick “Bullitt,” which won an Oscar for film editing.

TV documentaries like “Elizabeth Taylor in London,” “Sophia Loren in Rome,” and the “Proud Land” miniseries made up much of D’Antoni’s early work in Hollywood in the early 1960s. “Bullitt” marked his first feature film producing credit in 1968, and from there he went on to produce “The French Connection” before returning to TV later in life.

The brand-new trailer for Venom will be released tonight at CinemaCon, according to Tom Hardy. The first bits of footage that were released for the movie earlier this year weren't received very well by fans. There was a slight tease of the symbiote, but the rest of it looked like a regular action movie starring Hardy. The stakes are high for the new Venom trailer, and fans are hoping that we will get our first look at the symbiote and even further, fans are hoping that we get a Carnage tease this time around as well.

Despite Netflix removing all of its films from the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Orson Welles will still be represented on the Croisette next month. The festival has announced the official lineup for this year’s Cannes Classics sidebar, and included on the list is the FilmStruck-produced documentary “The Eyes of Orson Welles,” from British documentarian Mark Cousin.

Netflix had originally been set to bring Welles’ unfinished film, “The Other Side of the Wind,” to the festival’s Out of Competition section, but the streaming giant announced it would not be attending the festival in any capacity after Cannes reinstated a rule preventing films without French theatrical distribution from competing for the Palme d’Or. The rule would not have affected “The Other Side of the Wind,” but Netflix wasn’t going to make an exception.

While promoting his upcoming AMC series “James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction,” the “Titanic” and “Avatar” director said that he hopes the industry starts getting tired of the “Avengers” storyline because “there are other stories to tell.”

After experiencing stomach pains while on the “Dancing with the Stars: Live” tour last month, the 23-year-old was diagnosed with a rare and potentially fatal condition called hyperparathyroidism. He had a tumor on one of this parathyroid glands that disrupted the amount of calcium in his blood.

“Just the word tumor is so frightening,” he told “People.” “I didn’t know what malignant or benign meant until I looked it up and I was like, ‘Well hopefully it’s benign — God forbid I have cancer.’ That is more stress than I could ever imagine. I think the scariest part was not knowing.”

Birgitta Bjornsdottir and Marco Alessi, the producers, respectively, of Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week title “Woman at War,” and Directors’ Fortnight documentary “Samouni Road,” are among the 20 selected for the 2018 edition of European Film Promotion’s Producers on the Move initiative.

The up-and-coming producers, who must have had production experience and an international film release, are selected by Efp and its members. Hamburg-based Efp is a network of 38 European film and talent organisations. The 19th Producers on the Move runs in Cannes, starting May 10.
