Why I’m betting on ‘Klaus’ to upset ‘Toy Story 4’ at the Oscars (unless I change my mind)
Forget “1917” vs. “Parasite.” The toughest category to predict at the Oscars may just be Best Animated Feature, where “Toy Story 4” is ostensibly the favorite despite how many times it has lost throughout the season. That’s why I’m following BAFTA‘s lead by going with “Klaus” — unless someone changes my mind before this weekend’s awards.

My key reasoning is that the Oscars really don’t like sequels. They’re often nominated, like “Shrek 2” (2004), “Kung Fu Panda 2” (2011) and “Incredibles 2” (2018), to name a few. But they almost never win, and there are times when they’re shockingly snubbed completely, like “Monsters University” (2013), “Finding Dory” (2016) and now “Frozen II” (2016).

Of course, you might argue quite correctly that the “Toy Story” franchise is the one exception to that rule since “Toy Story 3” (2010) won Best Animated Feature.
