Joker officially rated R for bloody violence, disturbing behaviour and sexual images

It’s been promised by the filmmakers since day one, but now we have official word that Warner Bros. and DC Films Joker movie has been given an R rating from the Motion Picture Association of America.

The Joaquin Phoenix-led feature has been described as “a gritty character study” exploring Arthur Fleck’s descent into madness and his evolution into the iconic comic book villain The Joker.

According to the official site, the MPAA’s R-rating is down to “Strong Bloody Violence, Disturbing Behavior, Language and Brief Sexual Images”.

Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.
