Shortcut to Egot? Katrina Lenk and Ari’el Stachel could be the latest to win Tony, Grammy and Emmy for one show
It looks like there’s a new handy shortcut to Egot. First Cynthia Erivo won a Tony, Grammy and Emmy for Broadway’s “The Color Purple.” Then Ben Platt and Rachel Bay Jones achieved the same hat trick for “Dear Evan Hansen.” Now it looks like Katrina Lenk and Ari’el Stachel are on their way to the same rare feat for their performances in “The Band’s Visit.” And it’s thanks in part to a relatively new category at the Daytime Emmys: Best Musical Performance in a Daytime Program.

The Tonys, of course, honor the best musicals on Broadway. The Grammys have long done the same with their Best Musical Theater Album category for cast recordings. But since 2016 the Daytime Emmys have also honored musical performances on daytime programs, which means singers and theater performers are now able to win for promoting their work on a talk show or morning show.
