At $550M and climbing, the 90s-set adventure is well on its way to topping $1 billion – a rare feat for Marvel-owned movies, given only six McU films have been enshrined into the billion-dollar club. The top three are all Avengers films (no surprise there), while Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Civil War currently round out the top six.
That means Black Panther is Marvel’s only non-sequel to gross higher than $1 billion, so as things stand, Captain Marvel is headed towards box office immortality.
And as the post-mortem continues, Marvel Studios editor Debbie Berman has revealed details of the original ending she had planned for Carol Danvers’ solo flight.
I did actually suggest some tweaks to the ending of this film. It used to end with Carol flying off into space alone, and I found that a bit jarring.
