The project, which has been known as “Nasty Women,” is a remake of the 1988 comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” Directed by Chris Addison from a Jac Schaeffer script, the movie centers on a pair of scammers — one low-rent and the other high-class — competing to swindle a naive tech prodigy out of his fortune.
The original “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” starred Michael Caine and Steve Martin and was directed by Frank Oz. That film was released through Orion Pictures.
Producers on the new film are Roger Birnbaum and Wilson. Production companies are Cave 76 Productions and Camp Sugar Productions. Birnbaum is the former co-ceo of MGM.
MGM announced on Oct. 31 that it was returning to domestic distribution in partnership with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures, which launched a distribution operation earlier this year.
