Kiefer Sutherland is returning to television.
The “24” alum will star in “Designated Survivor,” a political conspiracy thriller for ABC, in which he will play the President of the United States. Sutherland will also serve as an exec producer.
The project, which landed a straight-to-series order, will be exec produced by Sutherland, “X-Men’s” Simon Kinberg, Entertainment 360’s Suzan Bymel and David Guggenheim (“Safe House”), who will serve as writer on the series, which marks the first production commitment from the newly formed Mark Gordon Company studios.
“Designated Survivor,” first reported by Deadline, marks the latest project between Mark Gordon Company and ABC. The company is behind the network’s breakout fall drama “Quantico” and long-running hit “Grey’s Anatomy.” In development at ABC is a terrorism crime drama from Mark Gordon Co., loosely inspired by the achievements and expertise of Ray Kelly, the longest serving police commissioner in New York City’s history.
