Johnny Ray Gill has been cast as a series regular in CBS’s upcoming comic thriller “BrainDead,” Variety has learned.
Gill, whose credits include “True Blood” and “Rectify,” joins leads Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Tveit in the show, hailing from “The Good Wife” creators Robert and Michelle King,
He will play Gustav, an intuitive, eccentric genius who is the first in D.C. to recognize that there may be alien spawn attacking the Capital. Gustav has a million conspiracy theories, but is occasionally totally right, which makes him Laurel’s (Winstead) valuable accomplice.
“BrainDead” follows Laurel, a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer who gets her first job in Washington, D.C., and discovers two things: the government has stopped working, and alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill staffers.
Aside from the Kings, exec producers include Ridley Scott, David Zucker and Liz Glotzer.
