“Dallas Buyers Club” director Jean-Marc Vallée is in talks to direct David E. Kelley’s HBO limited series “Big Little Lies,” in which Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will star, Variety has learned.
The project reunites Vallée with Witherspoon, who last teamed up in the 2014 pic “Wild,” which earned the actress a Golden Globe and Oscar nom.
The project is a big get for HBO, bringing star power and creative talent to the small screen, in the vein of “True Detective’s” first season. With both Oscar winners set to star and Kelley attached as writer/producer, the limited series, which was packaged by CAA, was shopped around to various premium buyers, including Netflix, before landing at the pay-cabler.
