Walden Media Producing ‘Platypus Police Squad’ Movie (Exclusive)

Walden Media will develop, finance and produce an animated film adaptation of “Platypus Police Squad,” Variety has learned.

The children’s series by Jarrett J. Krosoczka centers on two duck-billed detectives in Kalamazoo City tasked with busting illegal candy sales and tracking down political corruption. The books are published by Walden Pond Press, a collaboration between Harper Collins and Walden Media. Three installments have already hit shelves and a fourth sequel is in development.

The move comes as Walden has been busy unveiling a slate of films such as last month’s action adventure “Everest” and next summer’s “The B.F.G,” a Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of the Roald Dahl children’s classic about a lovable giant. Walden is co-financing those films, but the studio has been ramping up its in-house production and development operations, as well.

The screenplay for “Platypus Police Squad” will be written by Jon Saunders and Ross Evans.
