Filming wraps on The Wolverine, first trailer due early 2013

Filming has wrapped on The Wolverine, the second solo adventure featuring Hugh Jackman's metal-enhanced mutant antihero.

Principal photography began in Australia in July before moving to Japan for several weeks and then going back Down Under to complete production. Most recently, crews recreated a snow-covered Japanese village in Sydney Olympic Park.

Director James Mangold has tweeted: "Heading to the airport. Goodbye Bondi. Goodbye Sydney. I will miss this beautiful country and all the great people I worked with here."

Twentieth Century Fox will release the film on July 25, 2013. The studio's latest synopsis revealed that the story would see Wolverine going to modern-day Japan and facing "his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed."

It went on to say: "Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality,
