The Glee actress recently opened up about her longtime struggle to kick her alcohol addiction, and now she's coming clean about the bizarre methods she used in her upcoming memoir Happy Accidents.
Lynch admits she often used over-the-counter cough syrup to achieve a buzz as she weened herself off beer.
In an excerpt from her autobiography, obtained by the New York Post, she writes, "I found myself eating about a gallon of chocolate ice-cream daily to replace the copious amounts of sugar my body was used to from the daily beer intake... I did, however, continue my habit of taking NyQuil before bed. Though no longer drinking Miller Lite, I was still in need of something to soothe me.
"The fact that NyQuil had alcohol in it was not something I acknowledged at all. I still considered myself on the wagon."
However, Lynch's reliance on cough syrup only worsened when she moved to New York for a lengthy run in stageshow The Real Live Brady Bunch.
She explains, "(The show) ran for 10 months at the Village Gate and I was miserable the whole time. I'd close the drapes of my tiny room, take a swig of NyQuil, toast with a simple 'Bye-bye,' and go into a deep sleep."
Lynch's memoir is set to be released in its entirety on 13 September.
