Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart
plans to make his final voyage as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the next movie of the series - even though film bosses are desperate for him to stay on. Stewart has even scripted Picard's death in the new Next Generation film - which is the early stages of pre-production. But executives at Paramount want to keep all the crew alive for more intergalactic adventures, including an option of another television series. But Stewart plans to concentrate on theatre work for the next year, making it his priority to develop his own projects for screen and stage. He confesses, "If we do this next movie, my feeling very strongly is that it should be the last for the Next Generation at least the last for Jean-Luc Picard. "I have written an ending which nobody has accepted in which we finally kill him off, but they have refused to incorporate it."
