Jonze and Coppola Announce Divorce Plans

  • WENN
Film-making couple Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola are divorcing after four years of marriage. The pair - who met on the set of Sonic Youth music video "100%" in 1992 and wed in 1999 - have confirmed their marriage is over in a brief statement. Read by Coppola's representative Bumble Ward, it reads, "It is with sadness that Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonze have jointly announced that they are divorcing." Being John Malkovich director Jonze, 34, is rumored to be the inspiration behind the protagonist's distant spouse in Coppola's new film Lost In Translation - which previously led to speculation their union was in trouble. Paper LA Weekly observed that the "rumpled schleppiness" of actor Giovanni Ribisi - who plays Scarlett Johansson's absent spouse - "reminds one of Coppola's husband".
