Christopher Nolan has tapped “BlacKkKlansman’sJohn David Washington to star in his next “event film,” sources tell Variety.

Nolan recently finished the script for the movie and Warner Bros. quickly dated it for July 18, 2020 — a slot the studio often reserves for the director, most recently with “Dunkirk.”

The gig has become one of the more highly coveted in town, even though most of the industry has been kept in the dark about who has been meeting for the role and what the movie is even about.

Although rumors are swirling that the film is a romantic thriller in the vein of “North by Northwest,” sources have denied those claims, keeping plot details under lock and key. One insider described the pic as a massive, innovative, action blockbuster, which will again be shown in Imax.

Nolan is also producing along with his partner Emma Thomas. Production is set to commence later this year.

‘West Side Story’ Remake Adds Corey Stoll, Brian d’Arcy James as Cops

‘West Side Story’ Remake Adds Corey Stoll, Brian d’Arcy James as Cops
Steven Spielberg has cast Corey Stoll and Brian d’Arcy James as police officers in his movie adaptation of “West Side Story.”

Stoll will take on the role of Lieutenant Schrank, the New York City detective charged with quelling civic unrest in his racially-torn precinct. James will play Sergeant Krupke, a veteran cop whose beat includes the territories of two warring street gangs, the Sharks and the Jets.

The song “Gee Officer Krupke” was performed by the Jets in the original Broadway musical and the 1961 movie. It concludes with the memorable line “Gee, Officer Krupke – Krup you!”

Spielberg has already cast 17-year-old high schooler Rachel Zegler as Maria opposite Ansel Elgort as Tony, along with Rita Moreno as Valentina — a reconceived version of the character of Doc, the owner of the corner store where Tony works. Moreno won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Anita in the 1961 film version of “West Side Story.

Chris Cooper Joins, Focus Features Boards Jon Stewart’s Political Comedy ‘Irresistible’

Chris Cooper Joins, Focus Features Boards Jon Stewart’s Political Comedy ‘Irresistible’
Focus Features is partnering with Plan B Entertainment to produce and distribute Jon Stewart’s political comedy “Irresistible,” with Chris Cooper joining stars Steve Carell and Rose Byrne.

Variety first reported in October that Stewart and Carell had boarded the project, with Stewart directing and producing with Plan B. Stewart has kept a low profile since leaving “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” in 2015.

“In the age of fake news, Jon Stewart continues to be the real deal. He’s been making us laugh at the bipartisan commitment to bending the truth for years, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with him and Plan B as Jon brings his signature wit to the big screen with the incredibly versatile talents of Steve, Rose, and Chris,” said Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski.

Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film worldwide. Focus’ president of production Josh McLaughlin will oversee the movie.

In April, Netflix will add Lee’s lauded Cannes competitor “Burning,” which missed out on Oscar love but picked up plenty of other accolades during last year’s awards circuit, including a number of nods for star Steven Yeun. It will be joined by Arnold’s 2016 Palme d’Or entry “American Honey,” along with an extended version of Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”.

The streaming service will also

‘Catastrophe’ Creators Embraced the Mean and Morbid to End Their Beautiful Marriage Comedy
[Edits: The following contains spoilers from “Catastrophe” Season 4, including the finale.]

“Catastrophe” creators and stars Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan would never kill off their own characters in the finale of the Amazon marriage comedy — but they’re Ok if viewers got that sense of foreboding in the closing scene. As their kids sleep in the car, the married protagonists swim in the dangerous ocean full of rip currents as the camera pulls up and out.

“Why couldn’t [the kids] also die? Couldn’t the emergency brakes malfunction?” said Delaney, getting into the spirit of the dark scenario. “Did you see us roll down the windows? We want the pessimists to be comforted in knowing that everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, and that they’re going to have to stagger the funerals.”

Valuable Mistakes of a First Time Film Editor

In 2007, I wrote, produced and directed a microbudget feature film called Jackson Arms. The culmination of a lifelong dream, the film was made possible by the sale (after an extensive rehab) of my own home—a Diy endeavor dependent, for its success, on both hard work and good fortune. Because I was a first-time everything and the film, a comedic romance, was shot in two weeks (with animal actors and characters speaking Chinese) there were hiccups—and more than a few warts. After the film wrapped, I believed that I didn’t need to hire an editor because, […]

It’s set in New York City in the wake of the financial crisis and follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. The film begins shooting on March 22 in New York.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of women,” said Scafaria. “We’re grateful to have assembled such a powerhouse cast and can’t wait to start

Filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai’s Next Film ‘Blossoms’ Will Be Part Of A Trilogy With ‘In The Mood For Love’ & ‘2046’

Since 2000, acclaimed filmmaker Wong Kar-wai has only directed four feature films. However, when one of them is “In the Mood for Love,” you can forgive the director’s lack of output. The 2000 feature is often regarded as not just one of the best films of the last two decades, but also one of the best films, period. And since the release of that film, Wong has followed it up with a sequel, titled “2046,” in 2004, which also received critical acclaim.

‘Captain Marvel’: Samuel L. Jackson’s Digital De-Aging Is Just the Start of New VFX Advancements

It’s the year of digital de-aging, but with no fear of the Uncanny Valley in sight. In Marvel blockbuster “Captain Marvel,” Lola VFX took 25 years off 70-year-old Samuel L. Jackson as future S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury for the first time without the use of a digital double, and we can expect further strides in the technique with Ang Lee’s October release “Gemini Man” and Martin Scorsese’s Netflix mob drama “The Irishman.”

In Lee’s sci-fi thriller, Weta Digital tackles elite assassin Will Smith getting stalked by his younger clone, and, in Scorsese’s gangster epic, Industrial Light & Magic removes decades from Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in crucial flashbacks as real-life mob hitman Frank Sheeran and labor union boss Jimmy Hoffa.

Weta’s work on the mo-capped younger Smith clone, however, represents a major advancement in the de-aging technique (under the
