'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Looks to End February on a High Note
The winter box office season is nearing an end, serving as good news for what has been a rather rough start to 2019. Fortunately, before all eyes turn to March and Captain Marvel and Us, it would appear one of the final new wide releases of the season is looking to close things out on a high note as Universal debuts How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, their first DreamWorks Animation release since acquiring the animation studio in 2016 for $3.8 billion. The film is already off to a strong start internationally since releasing overseas seven weeks ago and is now looking to keep the momentum domestically. Also going wide this weekend is MGM's Fighting with My Family, after a limited debut last weekend, and Roadside is debuting Run the Race in moderate release. At a reported $129 million, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World carries the lightest budget

Annette Bening Spoiled ‘Captain Marvel’ for Her Kids So They Could Help Her Make Sense Of It

Marvel Studios and Disney are incredibly tight-lipped when it comes to revealing plot details about their comic book tentpoles, but Annette Bening isn’t so secretive. The Oscar-nominee is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming “Captain Marvel,” but she admitted to Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show” that she had a hard time understanding the screenplay written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Jac Schaeffer, and directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Bening said she has been a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and therefore she didn’t want to turn down “Captain Marvel” simply because she couldn’t figure out what was going on in the story. Bening decided to spoil the movie for her children so that they could help her make sense of plot.

“I had some basic knowledge, having watched the movies and enjoyed them,” Bening says. “However, when I read the script I did find it slightly confusing.

Francois Ozon’s ‘By The Grace Of God’ Delivers Strong B.O. Opening in France
Rolling off its triumph at the Berlin Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear, François Ozon’s Catholic church sexual abuse drama By “The Grace Of God” had a strong theatrical bow in France where it sold nearly 50,000 tickets on 290 screens on Feb. 20, its first day out

One of the best opening day for a French film so far this year, “By The Grace of God” is inspired by the scandal surrounding Bernard Preynat, a Roman Catholic priest who was accused of having abused scouts from 1986 to 1991, and was finally indicted in 2016 after several victims decided to file lawsuits. He is due to be tried later this year.

Produced by Eric and Nicolas Altmayer at Mandarin Cinema, “By The Grace of God” faced some legal turmoil in the run up to its release as Preynat’s lawyers attempted to delay the distribution of the film in France, arguing that

‘Barry’ Season 2 Trailer: Bill Hader’s Hitman-Turned-Actor is Back for Another Job

The first season of Barry had no right being as magnificent as it was. HBO’s pitch-black comedy about a hitman who gets bitten by the acting bug was the perfect blend of silly and tragic, a character-driven farce with a dark, Breaking Bad-esque heart, all powered by Bill Hader and Henry Winkler doing career-best work. Final 2019 Oscars Predictions: ‘Roma,’ Olivia Colman, ‘Spider-Verse’

None of this really works does it? When it comes to the Oscars the old formulas for picking the Best Picture winner have sort of been thrown out the window this season. No film won more than one major guild honor. Sure, that’s happened before, but it doesn’t help that the only film that won a guild honor and took BAFTA’s top prize, “Roma,“ is a foreign language film.

‘Alita: Battle Angel’: It’s Not a Total Disaster, and Here’s Why Film Twitter Got It Wrong
Alita: Battle Angel,” Robert Rodriguez’s very expensive rendering of James Cameron’s long-developed Manga adaptation project has grossed over $47 million in its first six days. That’s hardly record-breaking — but it’s also not the unmitigated disaster predicted by numerous box-office pundits as well as the amateur mavens on social media.

Nothing will make this film a hit; although this weekend will give a better view of what the estimated $170 million budgeted film could accrue, it’s still likely to see a loss. All that said, let’s look at the silver linings. Here are some of the reasons for the better-than-expected performance:

Be Wary of Advance Projections

Many factors can throw off a projection including how many top titles are listed, advance marketing, time of year, to whom a film appeals versus who is polled, and impact of reviews among them.

Like all data, the raw numbers mean

‘Barry’ Trailer: Get Ready for Even More NoHo Hank in Season 2

‘Barry’ Trailer: Get Ready for Even More NoHo Hank in Season 2
“Emmy Winner Henry Winkler” is one of those phrases that’s just gratifying to see on a title card, especially now that it’s true. A quick five months after both he and star Bill Hader picked up awards for their work on the HBO show “Barry,” it looks like both actors are back for more of what made the first season one of 2018’s most enjoyable watches.

The network released a new trailer on Friday, showing how the title character is moving on from some truly fateful decisions at the close of Season 1. Gene (Winkler) still thinks his girlfriend is alive, while Barry (Hader) is covering up his lingering guilt with a new gig at what appears to be an athletic wear store. Aside from his forays into the world of retail, both Barry and Sally (Sarah Goldberg) are back on stage in Gene’s theater class.

If you’ve ever wondered what a meaner, sadder David Brent would look like, Ricky Gervais has got you covered. Doug Jones: The Oscars Won’t Reward What I Do the Way They Have Makeup-Heavy ‘Vice’
The man who starred in last year’s Best Picture winner doesn’t think he’ll ever win an Oscar. That’s because Doug Jones doesn’t think that the kind of work he does will ever be recognized on the same level as other actors. “I don’t know that we’re going to see a new category created in my lifetime,” he told IndieWire.

This is because Jones isn’t the typical actor: For decades, he has been a major force in the world of genre entertainment, as he used his unique physique to animate the strangest creatures made possible by the imagination. At this stage in his career, he represents the gold standard for making inhuman characters identifiable on a human level, from the noble Starfleet officer Saru of “Star Trek: Discovery” to the “Amphibian Man” of Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water.”
