‘Guys and Dolls’ Getting Remade at TriStar (Exclusive)
Guys and Dolls,” the venerable Broadway musical, is set to return to the big screen.

TriStar Pictures has purchased remake rights to the original Damon Runyon short stories about gamblers and gangsters that inspired the shows, as well as the rights to the Broadway musical with its book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and its music by Frank Loesser. The studio has also acquired remake rights to the previous 1955 film adaptation from the Samuel Goldwyn company. That version of “Guys and Dolls” starred Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine, and was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, who also wrote the screenplay.

Movie musicals have been robust box office performers in recent years. Hit adaptations of stage shows include “Hairspray,” “Chicago,” and “Les Miserables,” and original musicals such as “The Greatest Showman” and “La La Land” have also been successes. In the case of “Guys and Dolls,

‘The Perfect Date’ Trailer: Noah Centineo Is a Dream Companion for Hire — Watch
Noah Centineo continues to be Netflix’s rom-com It Guy with his upcoming movie “The Perfect Date,” coming this April. Last year, when the actor spoke to IndieWire about “To All the Boys I Loved Before” and “Sienna Burgess Is a Loser,” he also revealed details about the new comedy.

“I just finished a film called [‘The Perfect Date’] with Awesomeness production, the same company that did ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ that’s really endearing,” he said. “It’s about a young man who’s very enterprising and comes from a low income household, and decides to create an app that allows anyone to hire him for a stand-in date. He does this in the hopes of making enough money to get into his dream college, and then hopefully learn who he is in the process.”

In the trailer and first-look photos below, Centineo can be

‘New Mutants’ Star Is Just As Confused As You Are About ‘X-Men’ Spin-Off: “Who Knows When The F–k It’s Gonna Come Out?”

It happened. Disney now owns and controls the vast library of 20th Century Fox. And as has been beaten into our heads from the millions of articles over the last year, this deal means that the Mouse House controls the ‘X-Men’ films, and thus, can decide the fate of the upcoming films “Dark Phoenix” and “The New Mutants.” While it appears that “Dark Phoenix” is going full steam ahead with its June release, the big question is what is going on with ‘New Mutants.’ And if anyone out there knows, star Maisie Williams would love to find out.

The Orchard Head Content Executive Paul Davidson Steps Down

At the finish line of its sale to 1091 Media, distributor the Orchard’s film and TV head Paul Davidson is parting ways with the company.

In an amicable split, the creative executive addressed staff in person and in a company-wide memo on Tuesday in New York City to inform them of his decision.

“While I am very appreciative that 1091 asked me to continue to run the company in its new iteration, for me the time is right to look toward my own next chapter and build something new,” Davidson wrote in his note.

In his roughly five years, Davidson has overseen the acquisition and release of many of the indie distributor’s titles, including the Oscar nominee for documentary feature “Cartel Land,” the Sundance hit “The Overnight,” acclaimed fashion doc “Dior & I,” and the cult film “What We Do in the Shadows.”

Before the Orchard, Davidson led Microsoft’s Xbox Video service.

FX’s ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ Is A Bloody Good Time [Season 1 Review]

The quality-level blood’s been mostly sucked out of the vampire genre in recent years, but damn, Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement really injected some fake teeth funny back into the veins of the genre in 2014. Featuring an inspired mockumentary method about a film crew allowed to document real-life, centuries-old vampires living in an old New Zealand mansion, while employing visual gags and deadpan humor, their co-directed/co-written, “What We Do In The Shadows” was an unexpected hit and left fans wanting more from the odd and quirky vampire’s next door.

Tessa Thompson Confirmed for ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Weighs In on Valkyrie-Captain Marvel Fan Buzz

Tessa Thompson Confirmed for ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Weighs In on Valkyrie-Captain Marvel Fan Buzz
Fans of Tessa Thompson’s Marvel Cinematic Universe character Valkyrie better get excited as the warrior is now confirmed to appear in next month’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Thompson’s involvement in the blockbuster was expected by McU fans, as the character was previously confirmed to have survived Thanos’ destruction of the Asgard ship (post-credits scene of “Thor: Ragnarok”) and his universe-splitting snap (“Avengers: Infinity War”), but the release of a new Valkyrie poster outright confirms the character’s involvement in “Endgame” for the first time.

Thompson’s Valkyrie debuted in “Thor: Ragnarok” and became an instant fan favorite. With no “Thor” sequel announced for the future and Valkyrie entirely absent from “Infinity War,” many McU fans have been wondering when Thompson would reemerge in the McU. Both Marvel and Disney have been keeping Thompson’s involvement in “Endgame” a secret, as Valkyrie has not been spotted in any trailer or TV spots for the tentpole.

This whole Marvel Cinematic Universe thing is getting out of hand. Back in the day, you used to get one, maybe two posters for a film’s release. But Disney and Marvel Studios have taken the idea of posters to a new level with “Avengers: Endgame.”

Emmy Predictions 2019: Best Variety Talk Series

Emmy Predictions 2019: Best Variety Talk Series
Last Year’s Winner: “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver

Still Eligible: Yes.

Hot Streak: In the four years since the Variety Series category was split into Talk and Sketch, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” has won three times — a hot streak unbroken by seven different competitors.

Fun Fact: Despite the Variety Sketch Series category being introduced in 1951, and winners ranging from “The Carol Burnett Show” to “Your Show of Shows” to “In Living Color,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” holds the record for most awards in the category by a virtual mile. The Comedy Central landmark has 10 awards, while “Late Show with David Letterman” is the next highest with six, and two series — “The Andy Williams Show” and “The Carol Burnett Show” — are the only other winners with more than two trophies. (They each have three.) Meanwhile, “The Daily Show” won all 10 of its Emmys consecutively, and

Disney’s French Chief Jean-Francois Camilleri Exiting, Helene Etzi Upped

Jean-Francois Camilleri is leaving Disney after more than 30 years and will replaced as the head of its French operation by Helene Etzi.

Sources said Camilleri’s departure was his own decision. He announced his exit on Twitter, Tuesday, and paid tribute to his team and colleagues at Disney, thanking them for the “unique adventure.”

In the U.S., a swathe of job cuts followed in the wake of Disney closing its deal for a raft of Fox assets. In France, the Mouse has filled Camilleri’s domestic responsibilities by upping Etzi. It was not immediately clear whether she will also cover the Benelux region and French speaking Africa, as her predecessor did.

Etzi’s elevation to country manager was announced internally. Disney declined to comment beyond confirming the personnel changes.

The outgoing exec created started out in advertising. He then moved from Europe to La for a role at Buena Vista International,
