Michelle Williams Film About Underground Abortion Clinic Lands at Amazon
Michelle Williams is set to star in and produce “This is Jane” for Amazon Studios, sources familiar with the project told TheWrap on Tuesday.

The film, based on the Laura Kaplan’s book “The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service,” will tell the true story of a Chicago woman who founded and ran Jane, an underground abortion service.

Kimberly Peirce (“Boys Don’t Cry”) will direct and John Lesher (“Birdman”) will co-produce the film.

'Deadpool 2' Is Getting an Extended Director's Cut

'Deadpool 2' Is Getting an Extended Director's Cut
You've already seen Deadpool 2. You must have, given the opening weekend gross. Do you want to see it again? What if there's an extra 12 minutes added to the sequel? That's right, Deadpool 2 is getting an extended cut -- a director's cut, in fact, one approved by helmer David Leitch (who shared the news with Cinema Blend), writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and star Ryan Reynolds. The version of the movie in theaters is about two hours long, but before delivering that final cut there was a preferred version that was just 12 minutes longer. Leitch and the others are now restoring that cut, presumably for the home video release later this year (but possibly for a theatrical re-release). For the most part, the additions will be extra jokes, but...

Film Review: Jim Carrey in ‘Dark Crimes’

Film Review: Jim Carrey in ‘Dark Crimes’
In “Dark Crimes,” Jim Carrey wears a grayish beard, cropped hair, and the jacket and turtleneck of a silently dissident Slavic literature professor from the mid-’60s. His character, named Tadek, is actually a Polish police officer, and Carrey speaks in an accent that’s so whispery and vague I got the feeling that if he were playing a Polish plumber back in his “In Living Color” sketch-comedy days, he might have worked that much harder to make his inflections authentic.

Tadek is a detective who got demoted to the lowly job of records-room clerk after a botched investigation. Desperate to win back his status, and his dignity, too, he seizes on a murder case that no one else will touch, maybe because it involves a sex club frequented by his boss. Throughout “Dark Crimes,” Carrey broods and stares like an actor who’s out to muffle any hint of

“Sprinkling a Little ‘Stacey’ On It”: Director Stacey K. Black on How to Excel at Directing Episodic Television

Directing episodic television can be one of the most challenging forms of filmmaking. A tricky balancing act is required by having to simultaneously meet the expectations of the audience, the demands of the network and showrunner, and the desires and opinions of actors and crew, who have been on the show for years — and all while providing a distinctive enough point of view so as to make one’s self essential to the process (and thus get asked back to direct more episodes). Few directors have managed to navigate the intersection between personal expression and mass entertainment as well as […]
