Ethan Hawke’s ‘First Reformed’ Leads Gotham Awards Nominations
First Reformed,” a drama about a priest who questions his faith played by Ethan Hawke, scored the most nominations for the 2018 Gotham Awards, the annual ceremony in New York honoring independent film.

The movie, written and directed by Paul Schrader, landed in three categories: best feature, best actor (for Hawke) and best screenplay.

The Favourite,” Fox Searchlight’s comedy set in the 18th century court of Queen Anne, picked up two nominations for best feature and best screenplay. It will also be awarded a special jury prize for its cast of Olivia Colman (considered an Oscars favorite for playing the monarch), Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz.

The Gotham Awards, presented by the Independent Film Project, are decided by small committees of journalists and film critics. Nevertheless, on the mad dash to the Oscars, the ceremony has become the Iowa caucus of awards season because of its early date. Last year,

Baltimore Police Department Criticizes ‘SNL’ for ‘Inappropriate’ Cop Sketch in Open Letter to Lorne Michaels

Baltimore Police Department Criticizes ‘SNL’ for ‘Inappropriate’ Cop Sketch in Open Letter to Lorne Michaels
The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police criticized “Saturday Night Live” for its misrepresentation of the city’s police officers in a sketch that aired during the October 13 episode, hosted by Seth Meyers. The sketch, entitled “Traffic Stop,” featured Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and new cast member Ego Nwodim as cops who flirt with a male driver they’ve pulled over. Baltimore Pd member Lt. Gene S. Ryan sent the letter to “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels.

“We must take issue with the grossly inapt portrayal of our members during this particular sketch,” the letter states. “As you are most likely aware, the Baltimore Police Department is currently a very beleaguered agency in the throes of massive criticism and disrespect. Many of our members, especially our younger ones, are struggling with their choice of career and we are losing good and credible members daily. It is a difficult time in Baltimore and to portray our brave,

‘Veep’: An Indiana Democratic Senator Basically Recreated Jonah Ryan’s Campaign Ad

Look, a Senate campaign is a long and difficult. It’s hard to stay on message for months on end. Even when you do, you might just accidentally end up recreating one of the best political gags from the last few years.

Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly is now showing why “Veep” might sneakily be the most accurate show about DC, after a Twitter sleuth pointed out the similarities between his recent 30-second TV spot and one from Jonah Ryan’s House race. In Season 5, as the odious Jonah ran for an open Congressional seat in New Hampshire, his team salvaged a day’s worth of unsuccessful attempts at ruggedness to piece together this workable 30-second ad.

Donnelly seems to be a bit better at wielding an axe while railing against members of his own party (instead of Selina Meyer). In between swings, he takes pride in his push for border

But lately, outside of a strong turn in ‘The People v.

Disney Keeps 20th Century Fox Subsidiaries and Exec Hierarchy Intact

As Disney completes its merger with Twentieth Century Fox, the studio will bring the leaders of the existing Fox motion picture labels into the Mouse House, reporting to The Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn.

One notable exception: Current 20th Century Fox Film chairman and CEO Stacey Snider will not make the transition. Snider moved into the role to take over for Jim Gianopulos, who eventually went to Paramount. Now, after running Universal and DreamWorks for Steven Spielberg, Snider is out of a job.

Moving to Disney is Snider’s vice chairman Emma Watts, who retains that title as well as president of production at Twentieth Century Fox Film. Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula will continue to serve as chairmen of Fox Searchlight Pictures. Elizabeth Gabler will continue to serve as president of production, Fox 2000.

This executive shuffle ends the latest chapter in Hollywood’s version of “Survivor,” but
