Topher Grace Is Playing David Duke in Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’
Topher Grace will portray former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke in Spike Lee’s upcoming “BlackKklansman,” it was announced in CinemaCon on Wednesday.

Grace’s casting was previously announced, but it was not known he’d be playing the prominent white supremacist and former Louisiana state representative in Lee’s telling of a remarkable American story.

Footage screened for theater exhibitors was brief but classic Spike Lee — biting social commentary that is all the more shocking for being true.

Amber Heard Joins Elisabeth Moss in Drama ‘Her Smell’ (Exclusive)
Amber Heard is set to join Elisabeth Moss in Bow and Arrow Entertainment’s “Her Smell,” with Alex Ross Perry directing from his own script.

Gayle Rankin is also on board, with Moss producing the film, alongside Matthew Perniciaro and Michael Sherman of Bow and Arrow, Adam Piotrowicz, and Perry.

Moss will star as Becky Something, a maniacally destructive punk rock star who pushes her relationships with bandmates, family, and followers to the limit as she wages a years-long war against sobriety while attempting to re-engage the creativity that had once led her band to massive crossover success.

Details behind who Heard will be playing are currently unknown. Production is underway.

Endeavor Content is representing sales for the film along with Bow and Arrow.

Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk’ in Development at New Line
Post “It,” New Line is staying in the Stephen King business and putting the author’s 1979 novel “The Long Walk,” into active development, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.

Screenwriter James Vanderbilt has written the script to adapt the book. King originally wrote the novel under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

Vanderbilt will also produce the adaptation with Bradley Fischer and William Sherak via their Mythology Entertainment banner. Tracey Nyberg will exec produce.

“The Long Walk” is set in a future dystopian America and follows the contestants of a grueling walking contest, held annually by the totalitarian government of the United States of America. Contestants must maintain a pace of four miles per hour, and if they drop below it they will be executed — the race ends when only one contestant is alive.

Universal Unveils First Footage of Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Paulson in M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Glass’
Universal impressed the nation’s exhibitors Wednesday with the first footage of M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Glass,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, James McAvoy and Sarah Paulson.

Shyamalan told the audience at CinemaCon at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas that “Glass” is the “first truly grounded comic book movie.”

Jackson added, “It’s about time I got the title role in my own motherf—ing movie.”

All four stars appeared on the stage, and the footage set up Paulson as a psychologist dealing with the three other characters, who she notes all believe that they are superheroes. What followed was a series of scenes with the characters interacting with each other — with Willis’ character attempting to stop an apocalyptic outcome.

Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana to Star in Laika’s New Animated Feature for Annapurna
Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana and Zach Galifianakis will star in an untitled new animated movie from stop-motion studio Laika for Annapurna Pictures, the companies announced Wednesday.

Chris Butler, who directed the studio’s Oscar-nominated 2012 movie “ParaNorman,” will direct the globe-trotting comedy-adventure.

The film will be the Oregon-based studio’s fifth feature, following successes like “Coraline,” “The Boxtrolls” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.”

“Our next film represents an evolutionary shift for Laika,” Laika president and CEO Travis Knight said in a statement. “It’s an exciting bridge to our future. Director Chris Butler and the wizards at Laika have crafted a moving work of art, layered with wit and imagination and soul. Plus it’s really, really funny. It’s a privilege to partner with Megan [Ellison] and her exceptional team at Annapurna to bring this beautiful original story to the world.”

Annapurna founder Megan Ellison added, “We’re excited for the opportunity to collaborate with Travis and the amazing team at Laika. We appreciate their trust and look forward to having some fun together.”

Harrison Ford Joins The Secret Life Of Pets 2 In His First Animation Role
For the first time in his film career, Harrison Ford is joining an animated feature. Ford will lead the cast in The Secret Life of Pets 2, the sequel to the successful CGI film. Deadline reports Ford will be joined by Patton Oswalt, Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll and Pete Holmes who will all join the franchise for the first time. Oswalt will take over the role of Max, who was originally voiced by Louis C.K.

Beyond C.K.'s absence, much of the cast from the original film will be reprising their roles. The film's script will be written by Minions writer Brian Lynch, and Despicable Me's Chris Renaud will direct.

No details have been released regarding Ford's character, so we can only speculate on the pet he will play. Does anyone have any guesses?

The awesome Brie Larson is filming ‘Captain Marvel’ as we speak… It’s exciting because it’s showing that yeah, of course, it’s time we start seeing the perspective of a story come exclusively from women. Magic happens when women do their thang.”

“I can do superhuman things, so if you need me at all, there are things I can do,” DeGeneres weighed in, just in case the all-female “Avengers” movie comes into fruition any time soon.

Guy Pearce, Claes Bang, Vicky Krieps, and Roland Moller are set to star in Imperative Entertainment pic “Lyrebird” with Ridley Scott on board to produce.

The film tells the true story of Dutch folk hero Han Van Meegeren, who swindled millions of dollars from the Nazis by selling them forgeries of Johannes Vermeer paintings and is considered the most successful art forger of all time.

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby penned the script along with John Orloff. Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin is directing the film.

Imperative is also producing alongside Scott. Production is currently underway in the U.K. and Holland.

Pearce, who is best known for roles in “L.A. Confidential” and “Iron Man 3,” was most recently seen in the Sundance movie “The Catcher Was a Spy” and can be seen next in Focus’ “Mary Queen of Scots.” He is repped by CAA.

If ever there was an automobile associated with a film, it's the iconic DeLorean time machine in Back to the Future. It turns out that Universal Pictures has been paying money to use the image of the car, but in a new lawsuit, the widow of automaker John DeLorean alleges not receiving a "substantial payment" from Universal.

According to a complaint in New Jersey federal court, the payment went to the DeLorean Motor Company.

Amy Adams is set to star in the Fox 2000 film “The Woman in the Window” with Joe Wright directing.

Tracy Letts penned the screenplay with Scott Rudin and Eli Bush producing.

The pic is based on A.J. Finn’s best-selling novel, which debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list and remains the biggest-selling adult fiction title of 2018. With more than one million copies sold in the United States, the novel has additionally topped the bestseller charts in multiple countries and is currently published in 38 languages.

Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva are overseeing the project for Fox 2000.

Adams will next be seen starring in “Sharp Objects” for HBO, where she serves as an executive producer as well. She will also star as Lynne Cheney in Adam McKay’s upcoming Dick Cheney film opposite Christian Bale. Australian Movie Theater Plays ‘Hereditary’ Trailer Before ‘Peter Rabbit,’ Families Panic and Flee the Cinema

The families who turned out for an April 25 screening of Sony’s “Peter Rabbit” at Event Cinemas in Innaloo, Western Australia got a terrifying surprise when the trailer for A24’s R-rated horror movie “Hereditary” played before the PG-rated family movie. According to a report in The Sydney Morning Herald, the “Hereditary” preview was accidentally shown to family audiences and created a small panic in the theater.

“It was dreadful. Very quickly you could tell this was not a kid’s film,” an audience member named Jane told the newspaper. “Parents were yelling at the projectionist to stop, covering their kids’ eyes and ears. A few went out to get a staff member but she was overwhelmed and didn’t really know what to do. Some parents fled the cinema with their kids in tow.”

The theater eventually shut the screen off and offered every audience member a complimentary movie

Contrary to rumors, Paramount’s upcoming World War II horror movie Overlord is not a Cloverfield sequel. Speaking at CinemaCon, producer J.J. Abrams told the crowd that Overlord which is about soldiers who find out the Nazis are using supernatural forces and engaging in gruesome experiments, will be Bad Robot’s first R-rated picture. Rainer Sarnet’s dark folklore fairytale November received the €10,000 Golden Lily award for best film at goEast’s closing ceremony in Wiesbaden, Germany on Tuesday (24 April).

The International Jury headed by Golden Bear winner Ildikó Enyedi praised the Estonian filmmaker’s third feature ”for the powerful vision, the true poetry, the free humour” as well as “the courage of the producer [Katrin Kissa] to fight for this vision.”
