‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Goes Back To Basics And Shows Marvel TV Has Some Life Left In It Yet [Review]

In 2015, “Daredevil” marked the first series in the Netflix and Marvel TV partnership. With its decidedly dark take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stylish, unique action, the fledgling superhero series drew critical acclaim and became an instant hit for the streaming service. However, over the next three years, Netflix/Marvel’s iffy output —new shows, returning seasons of previous series’ and the highly-anticipated team-up “The Defenders”— wavered heavily in quality.

James Gray’s ‘Ad Astra’ Moves To May 2019, Conveniently Following Cannes

Good news bad news time. The bad first, always. James Gray‘s sci-fi movie “Ad Astra” will not be coming out this fall. While the movie did have a January 2019 release date, many hoped/prayed/presumed the movie would receive 2018 Oscar-qualifying run. The New ‘Halloween’ Was Originally Going to Kill Off Dr. Loomis

While director David Gordon Green’s new Halloween film has been drawing praise for keeping with the spirit of John Carpenter’s original film, the direct sequel almost went one step too far. Green and co-writer Danny McBride hatched the idea to make a new Halloween movie set 40 years after the events of the first movie, serving as a direct sequel to the legendary horror film. They hit upon the notion to jettison any and everything that has been done or depicted in every single Halloween sequel, including the Carpenter-penned Halloween II which introduced the revelation that …

Melissa McCarthy Starred in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ Because She Related to Complicated Alcoholic Forger Lee Israel

Melissa McCarthy Starred in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ Because She Related to Complicated Alcoholic Forger Lee Israel
For her most dramatic film role to date, Melissa McCarthy followed a familiar path: a transformative role in a big-screen biopic about a singular (and very real) person. But as alcoholic forger Lee Israel in Marielle Heller’s “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” McCarthy isn’t a particularly well-known character, nor does the film try to dull down the very rough edges of its subject. The film follows the downswing of her once-profitable career of a biographer to the stars, and McCarthy slips into the part of the brash and criminally clever Lee with ease and affection.

It’s smart subversion of on-screen expectations that embraces the real Lee while also letting McCarthy tap into darker material than she — and Hollywood — are used to seeing from actresses.

“I think there’s been far too much of the ‘perfect woman’ [on-screen], who I’ve personally never met,” she said, during a post-screening
