Kaye Ballard, Star of ‘The Mothers-in-Law,’ Dies at 93
Singer-comedienne Kaye Ballard, who starred alongside Eve Arden in the 1960s sitcom “The Mothers-in-Law” and was among the stars of the 1976 feature based on Terrence McNally’s farce “The Ritz,” died Monday in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She was 93.

She had recently attended a screening of a documentary about her life, “Kaye Ballard: The Show Goes On,” at the Palm Springs Film Festival, according to the Desert Sun, and became ill soon after.

Ballard’s career spanned stage and screen, and she was a star on Broadway when she was paired with Arden as neighbors whose kids get married on “The Mothers-in-Law,” which ran on NBC from 1967-69 and later in syndication.

On the show Ballard played Katherine “Kaye” Josephina Buell, the overly emotional wife of Roger Buell (played by Roger C. Carmel) and overprotective mother of Jerry Buell (Jerry Fogel). She was an unenthusiastic housewife, frequently spoke in Italian, and

Ariana Grande Responds to
Ariana Grande's latest single, "7 Rings," was poised to be 2019's first big hit. But after the pink trap-inspired music video hit YouTube, it didn't take long for fans and critics alike to realize that the melody sounded a little too familiar for comfort, and that the song contains some questionable lyrics. Needless to say, the backlash was swift. Now Grande has responded to it all in the comments section of a photo on the Shade Room's Instagram account, where a meaningful critique of her lyrics was going on between users.

To give you some context, the single, which was released on Jan. 18, was first criticized by rapper Princess Nokia (real name Destiny Frasqueri) in a now-deleted tweet for its similarities to a song she released on her 1992 mixtape called "Mine." The musician, 26, zeroed in on the verse where Grande sings, "Make big deposits, my gloss is poppin' / You like my hair?

Hannah Beachler Nabbed a Historic Oscar Nod, but Wait Until You See What Else She's Done

Image Source: Getty / Valerie Macon

This week finally yielded the pièce de résistance of award season: the 2019 Oscar nominations. Truth be told, there are certainly some aspects of the nominations that have us scratching our heads. No female directors were nominated, and the controversial Green Book and slightly revisionist Bohemian Rhapsody earned plenty of praise. There are a couple of bright spots, though, and most of them are related to Black Panther's exceptional string of nods.

In spite of being overlooked in acting and directing categories, the film became the first-ever superhero movie to receive a best picture nomination. What's more? Black Panther also earned nods for sound mixing, sound editing, best original song, best achievement in costume design, and best original score. And then there's the nomination for production design, which isn't exactly a highly scrutinized category. However, in the case of this particular film, it could be history in the making.

Both the first film and its 2018 follow-up raked in epic ticket sales, thrilled audiences, and gave diehard fans the raunchy R-rated antihero they were so desperately craving. With such incredible success, you'd think a third Deadpool film was a no-brainer, but it turns out the situation isn't so cut and dried. Luckily for us, a new and very tiny tidbit from Reynolds himself is giving us a sliver of hope to hang onto.

As a refresher, Reynolds previously revealed that he wasn't sure about a third movie. "I don't know that there would be a Deadpool 3. I really don't. I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don't think that you can keep doing that,

From School Teacher to Oscar Nominee: Inside Roma Star Yalitza Aparicio's Fairy Tale Road to Fame
Yalitza Aparicio didn't plan on auditioning for Roma. In fact, she didn't even have plans to be an actor at all. When casting on Alfonso Cuarón's highly personal film, based in part on his own childhood, came to her hometown of Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca in Mexico, she'd never even heard of the famed director. Instead, she was studying to be a school teacher and had to be convinced to attend the open casting call that she admittedly had suspicions might be a front for a trafficking scam. And now, here she is, gracing the cover of Vogue Mexico—a historical moment for indigenous women like herself—traveling to Italy for the film's world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film...

After all, Hargitay has played the cop and feline namesake for 20 years now on Law & Order: Svu, starting as a detective and rising through the ranks to become a seasoned sergeant and, now, a regularly aggrieved lieutenant and single mom on the ever-intense NBC drama. The iconic role wasn't the actress' first—she had been acting for 15 years before scoring the plum part—but she has been perfectly fine with it being her primary acting focus while she raises her...
