There's a Good Chance Dumplin' Will Get a Sequel - Here's Why

  • Popsugar
As seems to be the case so often these days, Netflix has once again produced a breakout comedy movie with sharp humor alongside a heartwarming story. The story of a young woman protesting her mother's beauty pageants, Dumplin' has quickly become the latest in Netflix's lineup of smart, sweet comedies. Although the movie tells a complete story itself, we're already wondering what the odds are of getting a sequel? After all, we can always use more movies like this in our lives!

Although Netflix, as per usual, hasn't commented one way or the other yet, Dumplin' does seem like a likely candidate for a sequel. The biggest reason? It's based on a Ya novel by Julie Murphy that already has a sequel, Puddin'. Murphy's second book switches the focus from original protagonist Willowdean Dickson to her lovable classmate Millie Michalchuk, who ends up crossing paths with mean girl Callie over

Why Making Dumplin' Was a "Dream Come True" For Screenwriter Kristin Hahn and Jennifer Aniston

Why Making Dumplin' Was a
If you would've told me that a movie about a beauty pageant would end up being one of 2018's most empowering movies, I probably would've had a good laugh. Women prancing around on stage in bathing suits, getting scored for their appearance? Thanks, but no thanks. Fortunately my ideas about the entire process were completely flipped by Dumplin', a dazzling comedy-drama with a Dolly Parton-themed soundtrack so good I could cry. (Full disclosure: I did cry multiple times while watching. No shame.)

The adaptation of Julie Murphy's New York Times bestselling Ya novel was brought to the screen by writer Kristin Hahn, which led to her longtime friend Jennifer Aniston joining the film, and soon everything else - including singer-songwriter and all-around queen Dolly Parton's involvement - fell into place. The film stars Australian actress Danielle Macdonald as Willowdean Dickson, a "self-proclaimed fat girl" who's dubbed "Dumplin'" by

Us: The Plot of Jordan Peele's Mysterious Thriller Is Vague but Incredibly Foreboding
It's been well over a year since Jordan Peele made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed horror flick Get Out, and fans of the Oscar-winning director are hungry for more of his work. Peele has been committed to giving them exactly that - the filmmaker has multiple projects in progress, including a reboot of The Twilight Zone, producing a new HBO series, and a role in Toy Story 4.

The one project we've been on our toes waiting for is Peele's first feature since Get Out, "a new nightmare" simply titled Us. Peele announced the project in May 2018 by dropping the movie poster and release date on Twitter, with the star-studded cast confirmations - Lupita Nyong'o, Elisabeth Moss - following soon after. While details surrounding the plot of the film have been scarce since Peele's announcement, /Film revealed a synopsis sent out with recent test screening invites that gives

I Could Watch Milo Ventimiglia Grab a Handful of Guacamole on a Loop and Never Stop Laughing
You never know what to expect when you play a game on The Tonight Show. That's what Jennifer Lopez and Milo Ventimiglia learned while promoting their film Second Act on Tuesday night. Jennifer first joined Jimmy for a few rounds of "Can You Feel It?," a game where each person had to identify an object hidden in a box. While J Lo and Jimmy had their fair share of dramatic reactions to the secret items (the "Dinero" singer thoroughly dismantled a tiny snowman), things took an even funnier turn when Milo joined in.

The This Is Us actor plays J Lo's husband in their film, so it's only natural he showed up to lend her emotional support amidst this guessing game. During the last round, he vowed to go "all in" and rapidly stuck his hand into a bowl of guacamole, alongside Jimmy and Jennifer. While those two quickly realized what they'd touched,

19 Times Meghan Markle Marched to the Beat of Her Own Drum This Year
Meghan Markle had one hell of year. She married the love of her life, Prince Harry; she's expecting her first child; and she became a royal. While being a royal may sound glamorous and all, the title comes with a lot of rules - emphasis on a lot. For starters, protocol states that greetings should never go beyond a handshake and selfies and autographs are prohibited. Women of the royal family should wear hosiery, sport neutral-colored nail polish, and always look perfectly polished. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Royals should also refrain from showing Pda during public engagements and shutting their own car doors. Sounds exhausting, right? Well, Meghan clearly seems to think so. Ahead, see all the ways the Duchess of Sussex marched to the beat of her own drum and broke royal protocol this year.

Following That Controversial Season 27 Finale, Dancing With the Stars Will Skip Spring Season
Sounds like you'll have to wait a little longer for Dancing With the Stars season 28. According to TVLine, the show is forgoing its usual two-seasons cycle next year and won't return in Spring 2019. Yep, that means you'll have to wait a whole year before returning to the ballroom floor.

The news comes after quite a controversial season 27. During the semifinals, fans were shocked when Fuller House star Juan Pablo Di Pace went home after receiving perfect scores. Of course, the real shocker was when Bobby Bones took home the Mirror Ball Trophy during the finale. While the radio personality certainly grew as a dancer throughout the season, many people thought Evanna Lynch and Milo Manheim, who received numerous perfect scores throughout the season, would take home the trophy.

Perhaps DWTS can take this extra time to listen to fans' requests by reevaluating the show's voting structure.

Confused About Aunt Lucy's Mysterious Death in Dumplin'? Here's What You Need to Know

Netflix's new hit comedy Dumplin' is, at heart, a story of women and family. It's specifically about the relationship between mothers and daughters, showing overweight, confident teenager Willowdean and her ruthless pageant-mom Rosie butt heads over the local beauty pageant. But there's another woman involved: Aunt Lucy (played by Hillary Begley), Rosie's sister.

We learn that young Willowdean had often been cared for by Lucy, while Rosie had been too busy working, and that she had been a formative influence on Willowdean's life. Her death six months before the bulk of the story begins is a big part of the movie's setup, and it's the knowledge that Lucy had, herself, been too scared to enter the pageant years before that inspires Willowdean to enter in the present day.

Lucy is dead before the movie starts and only appears in flashbacks, but how does she die, exactly?

Wondering If Lenny Kravitz Is Still Friends With Ex Nicole Kidman? He Has an Answer For You

They say the Hollywoood world is smaller than it appears, and that seems to ring true when it comes to dating history. Lenny Kravitz knows this first-hand, as he's been with multiple A-list celebrities, including Madonna, Adriana Lima, and Lisa Bonet. On Dec. 12, Lenny talked about how things are between him and another one of his exes, Nicole Kidman, during an episode of Watch What Happens Live.

A fan phoned into the show asking why Lenny and Nicole broke up in the early 2000s, as well as whether it was weird for Lenny to watch Zoë costar alongside Nicole in the HBO series Big Little Lies. "I thought it was very interesting that they ended up on the same show," Lenny responded. "Zoë hadn't seen Nicole since she was younger, and so it was beautiful that they got to know each other as adults and make this great show together.

The Sweet, Simple Reason Julie Andrews Isn't in Mary Poppins Returns

It's one of the most anticipated movies of the holiday season: Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to the beloved 1964 Disney classic. Starring Emily Blunt as the practically perfect nanny, the movie centers on the grown-up Banks children, as well as Michael Banks's three young children. There are plenty of nostalgic moments in the movie, from the charming soundtrack that would make the Sherman brothers proud to the showstopping cameo by original star Dick Van Dyke. But what about the original Mary Poppins, Dame Julie Andrews herself? Blunt has taken on the role, since Mary Poppins doesn't age and human actors do, but could Andrews appear, as Van Dyke does, in a smaller role?

Andrews does not make even a cameo appearance in the new movie, and there's a very sweet reason. Director Rob Marshall told Variety that he immediately approached her about the possibility, but she turned it down to
