Indie Spirits Host Aubrey Plaza Vows Awards Show ‘Will Not Be Boring’

Indie Spirits Host Aubrey Plaza Vows Awards Show ‘Will Not Be Boring’
Before she hosts the Film Independent Spirits Awards, Aubrey Plaza wants to make one thing clear: She definitely doesn’t have strep throat, despite a recent profile in The New York Times that suggested otherwise.

“Why would they write that I had strep throat? I didn’t want people to know that,” she said in an interview with IndieWire late last week. “No, I don’t care. I’m great. Everything’s great. I feel a lot better.”

Well, there’s one other thing she wants to make clear about the show: “I will not be boring,” she said. “It’s a live show. I have no idea what’s going to happen. I will say that I feel like it is my duty to prove to the world why a host matters, and how great a host can be. And be the hostiest host of all.”

Stanley Donen, Who Reinvented the Movie Musical and So Much More, Dies at 94

Stanley Donen, Who Reinvented the Movie Musical and So Much More, Dies at 94
“Our love will last till the stars turn cold.” That line from “Singin’ in the Rain” perfectly sums up the sensibility of its director, Stanley Donen: absolute sincerity wedded to knowing irony. When Gene Kelly’s Don Lockwood says that to Debbie Reynolds’ Kathy Seldon, he’s actually quoting a line from the cornball movie he’s just made with Jean Hagen for which he has contempt: “The Duelling Cavalier.” But what Lockwood comes to recognize is that, polished just right, hokum can be made to sparkle — and can convey genuine feeling. Is “Our love will last till the stars turn cold” silly? Sure. But it’s beautiful too, and who wants to be so cynical as not to recognize that?

Donen, who died February 23 at age 94 after a nearly 70-year career across film and theater, recognized what so few do today: that two seemingly contradictory things can be true at the same time.

Everyone Needs to Read Tracee Ellis Ross's Definition of Self-Care

  • Popsugar
On her ABC sitcom Black-ish, Tracee Ellis Ross is married with five kids and has more school bake sales than any parent should have to keep up with, but in real life, her day-to-day is the exact opposite. As the cover star of InStyle's November 2018 issue, the actress opened up about being "happily single," regardless of what other people have to say about it.

"These are very big and very personal questions that aren't anyone's business but that somehow, like the right to choose, become fodder for public conversation," Tracee shared. "Some of the ability to reflect on what I really want comes from pushing up against a society that shames me for not having the expected trappings. I'm very pleased with my existence these days. Have I had to learn to make friends with loneliness? Yes. I think if I were in a relationship, it would be the same.

The 52-year-old Grammy-winning R&B star, whose real name is Robert Kelly, had turned himself over to police on Friday night after he was charged with a 10-count indictment. His lawyer Steve Greenberg has said Kelly is "an innocent man," adding, "I think all the women are lying." Have No Fear, Tyrion Fans - Peter Dinklage Has an Exciting Role Lined Up After GoT Ends
Even though we aren't quite ready to accept it yet, we must soon acknowledge that Peter Dinklage can't play Tyrion Lannister forever. The 49-year-old American actor absolutely slays as the hilariously quotable younger brother of Cersei and Jaime Lannister, but as Games of Thrones nears its conclusion, so does the reign of our favorite member of the Lannister clan.

Despite Dinklage's impressive filmography, it's now difficult to imagine him taking on any role outside the world of Westeros. After Dinklage appeared alongside Morgan Freeman in a combo ad for Doritos and Mountain Dew during the 2018 Super Bowl, rapping along to Busta Rhymes and spitting fire, GoT fans were sure this was a cryptic message about Tyrion actually belonging to the Targaryen family. However, Dinklage was quick to shut this rumor down. "I love every single theory the fans of our show have, because they're so much fun," he said. "They

Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams's New Show Explores the Complicated Lives of 2 Icons

  • Popsugar
The new FX miniseries Fosse/Verdon has all the makings for both awards success and theater geek nirvana: with executive producers from stage - Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail and Dear Evan Hansen's Steven Levenson - and screen - The Americans' Joel Fields - and starring Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams, the eight episodes begin airing April 9 and tell the story of Bob Fosse, one of the most acclaimed directors of all time, and his wife, Gwen Verdon, the terrific Tony Award-winning actress and dancer who often gets left out of the story.

This project hopes to rectify that. Speaking to journalists on Feb. 4 at the show's Television Critics Association press day in Pasadena, CA, the stars and creators elaborated on the plot and characters of Fosse/Verdon, which aims to do justice to the true story at its center.

What Is Fosse/Verdon About?

Based on author Sam Wasson's biography,

Arya Serious?! It Looks Like Game of Thrones Oreos Are Coming Soon
I may not be the mother of dragons, but I'd like to be known as the mother of Oreos. I consider my hidden talent finishing off a sleeve in one sitting, preferably while binge-watching my favorite shows. So imagine my delight when I heard rumors about Game of Thrones-themed Oreos. According to Instagram user and possible food detective, @candyhunting, the chocolate sandwich cookies will hit shelves before the HBO's show final season premiere on April 14.

It looks like there won't be any changes to the traditional Oreos, but they will be decked out in dark packaging, showing off the names of House Targaryen, Lannister, and Stark. This appears to be the latest in GoT's "#ForTheThrone" campaign, which already resulted in an Urban Decay collection and a Bud Light Super Bowl commercial.

Anthony Mackie Will Lead the Cast of Altered Carbon Season 2 as Takeshi Kovacs

  • Popsugar
Altered Carbon's second season is officially in production, so Netflix figured what better way to celebrate that than by announcing which talented stars have joined the sci-fi series. Leading the charge is Anthony Mackie, who is stepping into the role of Takeshi Kovacs. The character is a former protectorate Ctac soldier who went on to become a revolutionary envoy and, finally, a mercenary for hire. Since the series takes place in a universe where humans' consciousness can be switched into different bodies (aka "sleeves"), Kovacs was played by three actors the first time around: Byron Mann, Will Yun Lee, and Joel Kinnaman. It'll be interesting to see how Mackie takes on the role, but he isn't the only familiar face you'll see in season two. Check out all the exciting additions, ahead.

Miley Cyrus Admits She Might Not Have Married Liam Hemsworth If It Wasn't For California Wildfires
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth seem closer than ever since they got married in December, but their marriage didn't come without a few trials beforehand. Nearly a month before tying the knot, the couple's Malibu home was destroyed in the California wildfires. Though it was a heartbreaking loss, it actually ended up bringing them closer together. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" singer admitted that they might not have even tied the knot if the fire didn't happen.

"I'm not sure without losing Malibu, we would've been ready to take this step or ever even gotten married, who can say?" Miley said. "But the timing felt right and I go with my heart. No one is promised the next day, or the next, so I try to be 'in the now' as much as possible." During the time of the wildfires, Miley and

Whoa: Post Malone's "Sunflower" Wasn't Supposed to Be on Into the Spider-Verse's Soundtrack

Whoa: Post Malone's
You want to know how I knew the dudes who live in the apartment above me had seen Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? Because shortly after the Oscar nominated-film's release back in December, they started blasting Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower." Nonstop. (For Day's On End.) Even though I've been permanently scarred by the opening "Ayy, ayy, ayy, ayys," I have to admit that it's the perfect track to introduce us to the movie's lovable protagonist, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore).

After a lengthy montage about Peter Parker, voiced by Hollywood's best Chris, the movie cuts to young Miles hanging out in his bedroom with headphones on, stumbling over the lyrics to "Sunflower" as he draws and makes stickers at his desk. It's one of many excellent songs on the soundtrack, but as writers Rodney Rothman and Phil Lord recently revealed to Vulture, "Sunflower" was actually their second choice.
