Salzburg/Austrian based composer, bassist, orchestrator.
Andreas 'Andie' Heyer, born November 16th 1984 in Salzburg/Austria. At the age of 9 he got his first classical piano education in Salzburg. Two years later he discovered the bass guitar and it was 'love at first sight'. At this time he started getting interested in jazz, contemporary, film music, classical composition and formed his first bands.
In 2000, at the age of 15 he successfully entered at Anton Bruckner University of Music in Linz and studied 'Electric Bass' (IGP) at the jazz faculty under Helmut Schoenleitner and 'Music & Media Technologies' (Adelhard Roidinger, Andreas Weixler). He participated at workshops/masterclasses with world-class bassplayers such as: Gerald Veasley (USA), Rich Brown (CAN), Kai Eckhard de Camargo (D/USA) and Indian music workshops (Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Shama Bhate). In 2003 he produced his first solo-bass CD 'Bass4You' which received excellent reviews by renowned German music magazines (Gitarre & Bass, Bassprofessor). In 2005 he graduated with distinction (Bachelor of Arts).
In 2005 he entered at Mozarteum University of Music in Salzburg to study classical/contemporary 'Composition' with Prof. Reinhard Febel (D). He had the chance to meet and get lessons (masterclasses) by some of the world's most renowned contemporary composers such as: Helmut Lachenmann (D), Steve Reich (USA), Renato Miani (IT), Georges Aperghis (GR/FR), Johannes Maria Staud (AT), Beat Furrer (CH), Toshio Hosokawa (JP), Matthias Pintscher (D), just to mention a few. He also took lessons and masterclasses in 'Film Scoring' (Salzburg 'Media Lab', Munich/Germany and later at the FMI Los Angeles). In 2006 he got several commissions during the international 'Mozart:2006 Festival' (chamber music piece at 'International Summer Academy', experimental film commission with improvised live-performances). In 2007 the Mozarteum Orchestra performed his large orchestra piece 'ERIS' conducted by Dennis Russell-Davies. In 2008 he graduated in 'Composition' with distinction (B.A.) and continued at University Mozarteum Salzburg with Master studies in 'Music Theory' (core studies: composition, electronic music, orchestration, film scoring and conducting).
In 2009 he collaborated with famous Indian sarod player Pt. Ranajit Sengupta and performed his 'Jugalbandhi' project at Oval/Europark (Austria).
He twice received the 'scholarship of achievement' from University Mozarteum and was award winner of two composition competitions (Munich and Vienna). His pieces got published (Doblinger Verlag, UE, Vogt&Fritz 'Münchner Klavierbuch').
In 2011 he successfully completed his Master studies (M.A.) at Mozarteum Salzburg. In 2012 he studied at the FMI - Film Music Institute, Hollywood/CA 'The Art of Orchestration for Film & TV' with famous Hollywood orchestrator Steven Scott Smalley (Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, David Newman, Basil Poledouris, etc.) and attended the Hollywood Music Workshop 2017 ('Conducting for Modern Film-Scoring' with Johannes Vogel).
Since 2012 he mainly works as a freelancing composer, musician and arranger/orchestrator.
His compositions, arrangements and orchestration works have been performed at many world-class concert halls (Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg, Felsenreitschule Salzburg, Großer Saal, Mozarteum Salzburg, Landestheater Salzburg, Brucknerhaus Linz, Wiener Konzerthaus, and many more...)
Since 2015 he is teaching 'music theory' and 'ear training' classes at the University Mozarteum Salzburg / Pre-College.
