On the Red Carpet for Indigo Lake (2017), directed by Martin Simpson & produced by Cobbstar Productions.
Sam Weiss is an emerging composer for film, television and media, saxophonist, conductor and musical director based in Sydney, Australia.

Sam has composed music for film and television professionally since age 20, with several feature film, short film and television (ABC, SBS) composer credits spanning drama, comedy, documentary, thriller and animation.

For Sam, the most important aspect of composition has always been to 'feel' the music. His practice is informed by his jazz improvisation background, which has cultivated an ability to formulate new musical ideas and melodies as second nature. This compels him to transport others to the places and sounds that he has in his own imagination.

Sam's compositional voice is an ever-evolving amalgamation (and culmination) of his broad range of musical experiences and abilities, including performing, orchestrating, arranging and conducting across a diverse range of genres and projects.

It's not just about the note, but the sound of every note.

In addition to his professional experience, Sam has honed his compositional craft through studying a Bachelor of Music (Honours)/Bachelor of Commerce degree at UNSW and a Master of Arts: Screen (Music) degree at Australia's foremost film school AFTRS. Along this journey, Sam has studied with leading Australian composers including Dr John Peterson, Dr Nicholas Vines, Andrew Scott, Alister Spence, Guy Gross, Cameron Patrick, Greg Wise and Paul Healy.

Beyond screen composition, Sam was the 2020/21 Composer in Residence for the Sydney Childrens Choir, who commissioned him to write 5 pieces.

Sam has been a conductor of the Central Synagogue choir since 2014, for which he has written and arranged compositions.

As a musical director, Sam has pursued cross-cultural collaborations with the Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Aboriginal and Jewish communities to produce a range of original compositions and performances.

Sam is an in-demand saxophonist and band manager, with over 120 performances in each of the last 3 years. Sam has performed in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Sam is an active member of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and the Music Arrangers' Guild of Australia, serving in the AGSC's Education Committee in 2021/22.

Sam's concert music scores are distributed by the Australian Music Centre and SingScore.
