Chef Jonathan cooks with passion in every dish he creates! Growing up in an Italian and Jewish family, (a.k.a the Pizza Bagel) the Long Island native utilizes rustic Italian flavors and Asian influences to create what Chef Jonathan calls "Itasian", a fusion of Italian and Asian cuisines. When Newsday asked Chef Jonathan about his cooking style he told the journalist that he relies on his design knowledge to create plates of art work.
When most toddlers where watching Sesame Street, Chef Jonathan was watching Julia Child. His mother Alison allowed him to experiment in the kitchen. He would use the blender to make crazy concoctions, scrambling eggs on the floor and even practicing his knife technique on his parent's new vinyl chairs. The love of food was evident to all to his mom and dad. How could his mother say no to fresh pasta made by a 4 year old?
Chef Jonathan graduated from NYIT in Old Westbury, NY with a BFA degree in Graphic Design. He was hired by the well-known post-production house Post Perfect, where he was in charge of catered events for A-list celebs and CEO's. After Several years of working in Manhattan, Chef Jonathan felt he needed to pursue bigger culinary challenges. He opened up a 40 seat Café in Bayshore, N.Y called HOME COOKIN CAFÉ. The Style of cuisine was scratch cooking, with a focus on Italian-American fusion using healthy options and local ingredients. With many successful years as a restaurateur he decided to sell the café and pursue other ventures.
His love for TV, cooking shows and competitions burned inside him. His wife Annmarie loved cooking shows just like Chef Jonathan's mother. She would watch the Food Network with him and shows like Emeril Live, Iron Chef and MasterChef. In Oct 2014 Annmarie pushed him to audition for FOX's hit TV show Master Chef Season 6.
Chef Jonathan was on the hit FOX TV show MasterChef 6 and was recently invited by the Food Network & Cooking Channel' as one of the competing Chefs for "Rooftop Chopped" a live version of the TV show Chopped. Chef Jonathan has been on CBS, NBC, and NEWS 12 LI. He will be on the upcoming TV shows Blacklist: Redemption, Quantico and Hoemleand.
You might have heard his voice on the airwaves like iHeart Radio, Tune-In, Grindhouse Radio and Try This Dish Radio on 1380 The Pulse. Chef Jonathan had several articles published in Newsday, Culination Magazine, LI Business News, L.I Herald and will have an Interview Feature in the upcoming issue of Entrepreneurial Chef Magazine.
He was selected to represent all of New York at the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, AL. in the Seafood Category and finished 19th in the World and 13th in the invite only World Chef Challenge against the best Chefs in the World.
Giving back to the community is important to Chef Jonathan. He currently helps such organizations like St. Jude Children's Hospital, March of Dimes, New York Sportscene Children's Foundation and CN Guidance just to name a few.
Chef Jonathan works as a Private Chef, TV Personality and Actor. He's also a Spokesman and Ambassador for Chef's Roll, Hamptons Fabulous, Murph's Famous Bloody Mary Mix. He also competes in several culinary competitions a year for Barilla and Avocados from Mexico, where he has placed as a top finalist several times. You can catch up with him this year at major food and wine festivals throughout the US and on network TV.
Chef Jonathan lives on Long Island, New York and is married to Annmarie they have 3 daughters.
