Matthew Tyler-Howells is a filmmaker and videographer from Cardiff, Wales, UK, who specialises in documentary short films and web video.
Although he made short films throughout his childhood, his main line of work arose from being affiliated with his local church, St Andrew's URC in Roath, Cardiff. From there, he produced videos for Kinetic School of Performing Arts (including a behind-the-scenes documentary, Kinetic - Ghost: From Page to Stage (2020)), Hegsy and The Elements, and artist Nathan Wyburn. He was also briefly a subtitler for Pride Cymru.
Graduating in 2023, he studied Film and Television at Aberystwyth University, where he produced two graduate films; Ode to Moss (2023), and Fibres: The Roots of Industrial Hemp (2023), the latter of which won an RTS Student Television Award in 2024. Whilst at university, he started producing short clips for the Matsiko World Orphan Choir, through his long-time collaborator Mark Hegarty (whom he had met at St Andrew's URC), which led to the production of Matsiko - Through These Eyes: The Road to the USA (2022). He also contributed to the early research and pitching phases of the related upcoming TV series, Let the Children Sing! (2023).
Matthew continues to produce videos and short films for Matsiko Children International whilst employed as a Media Control Operations Technician by BBC Cymru Wales.
